My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I guess it was bound to happen...my car is no longer perfect.
I was following behind a pickup truck on I-35 going home from work and the damn truck ran right over a large re-tread...didn't even swerve. So I caught it directly. WHAM! Pics are below :-(
So I guess the obvious thing is to replace my front lower splitter, wonder how much those cost. Then, I guess when I finally get around to putting in my heat exchanger, I can mess with the bumper. I hope something isn't torn underneath, gonna have to figure out what part of it got bent out of shape and figure out a way to get it to sit up higher again. Not sure what I do about those small scraped areas where paint is off? Any suggestions? Rocker panel go scuffed too...but at least it sits at an angle where it does not stand out.
I was just wondering after a year or so, does anyone on here still have a perfect front end, no scrapes or dings?
I was about ready to kill that truck last night!
Image 1...you can see how the bottom of bumper was pulled down, causing a larger "gap" between hood and front piece.
Image 2...scraped up splitter
Image 3...bottom left of lower grille, paint scraped off.
Image 4....corner of bumper near wheel well paint off.
Image 5...rocker panel scuffed up.
Image 6...not in my garage

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Those look all the same except the last one. Do you have a bottom shot of that one?
:) Seriously, that sucks. I'll see what I can find. I know they're not cheap.

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
That really doesn't look too bad. Maybe some touch-up paint and some buffing.
And some buffing needs to happen in pic #6 as well.

6 needs an alignment...... i'll get it
seriously that sucks, and unless it just sits and you never drive it little things are going to happen to the front end........thank a congressman for the roads...or the mayor or whomever you choose. But its going to happen.
Sucks man, sorry to see that. Still a beautiful ride though.

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
This really sucks... Most of it (hard to tell by looking) should buff out as they say.
Retreads should be outlawed. They're dangerous. I almost nailed one the other day in mine. think of hitting one while you were on a cycle.

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
So you think I can buff the plastic? It's gouged a bit, that tire hit me at 60 mph. Last time I messed with plastic (my resonator eliminator) it made a mess and I ended up painting it! hmmm, I suppose that COULD be an option, but we'll see.
Really, it's not horrible. Much better than a metal dent or ding. Luckily too, it's the very low area, like the rocker panels are angled so you can't even see the scuffs unless you bend down. Still, I do not like it. I've only had the car for less than 2 months.

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I definitely feel your pain... the rocker panel should buff, I don't see any paint transfer. the bumper is all up to you. can't really buff the chunks, but how noticeable are they when you aren't right up on it?
Is something like this covered under comprehensive insurance coverage?

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I have your solution and it would look sweet with your car color.

Also have you tried some "back to black" plastic polish to rub on it and see if it takes away the markings?

The thought of this happening just makes me cringe. Hopefully the proverbial "buff out" will take care of most of the damage.

I have to check my deductible. if it's 500, I might buy those parts which are about 1000 with insurance money. But, if my comp deductible is 1000 (like I fear), I think I'll opt for the buffing method. I was just about to purchase an Escort 9500xi radar detector...this might put it on hold.

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Dont spend money if you dont have to. A body shop also might know of a cheap way to fix the issue as well. Tricks of the trade kind of fixes for plastic

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Thanks man, if you have the means to help buff it out or something, I WILL come by your house! I'm gonna check into insurance and stuff also, but PM me or something. I will say though, the marks on the splitter are fairly deep...not just surface smudging. It's like a tiger swiped at it with it's paw!

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Good news, my deductible is 500. But I'll see what magic I might be able to work first. If they'll just cut me a check for an estimate, it might be I'll be able to afford those carbon fiber parts for free!

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
That would be pimp! But chances are they will make you to go a body shop to have the repairs done. But find a shop that is willing to work with you and they can inflate the estimate to cover the parts AND installation.

No worries, I dont use it. Its just something that is readily available for plastic. I use "High Gloss" for my black exterior which is amazing stuff. You can find it here locally at the detail supply warehouse.

Hmm, only showing 2007-2009 as far as chin splitters go on the shelby site. Surely they have one for 2011? And darn, I could have saved 10% on my heat exchanger :-). Ooh well.

Whats funny is that link goes directly to it, but when you search from the main site it doesnt show up.

I would assume that's because it's out of stock. Their site may be set-up where when it is unavailable, it becomes invisible.

I doubt that. That's a poor web strategy. You never want to give a customer a reason to leave your site. Never... You mark it are "out of stock" and hope they go ahead and order it and wait. If it was removed just cuz it wasn't in stock, it gives the impression that you don't carry it at all.

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Oh I know. Just thinking of ideas why you can find it in search but not through the main site. It gives the option or order, but lists and back-log of 3-5 days.
That actually makes it sound like they are made-to-order, not necessarily out of stock.

Let Jerry ( 03.sonicblue)take a shot at that. He might be able to buff it our or clay bar it.

Re: My front end AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Good news, taking it into a local place to get it appraised (damage that is). The insurance company is just gonna send me a check for the amount less 500 bucks deductible. I wonder how much it will end up being. If I end up getting 1000 or more back, I might get the carbon fiber front splitter and rocker panels.
For sure they will see the splitter and side panel will have to be replaced (and costs to install even though I'll do it myself). But the big cost if the front bumper. Do you see the paint chips? If they say it has to be replaced, that is a big cost, the piece, paint, AND you have to have it striped. I hope they don't come back and say just use touch up paint...that would suck. I know those paint chips/gouges are small, but isnt' the point to repair it? We will see Monday. 4:30 pm.
