Motor oil?
I know there is a vast amount of info on the webs about this topic but the last time I looked into it my ADD kicked in a butterfly went buy I took off chasing it..... It was a bad deal. Anyway my first and last was a freebie at the stealership.
Anyway I know ford has certain specs it has to meet and rumor is IF you have motor issues under warranty and they pull an oil sample you are SOL
I've been a mobil 1 guy my whole life but I don't believe they make a 5W-50. I've heard good things about red line or there is always just plain ol motorcraft.
What do you use and who do you order it from. I've yet to find 5w-50 in a parts store. Found some motorcraft for 7 bucks a qt delivered. Let me know. I'm about 500 mi out for my next change

Re: Motor oil?
this doesn't necesarrily pertain to you but I did some research lately and a lot of people are using 15w40 deisel spec oil (2v and 4v mod motors). The results are pretty hard to argue with. Heads and cams look brand new after tens of thousands of miles and it has a lot better protection. Also read that 5w20 is bs and the non gt500 crowd should switch back to 5w30 if you dont want to get into the deisel oil. Was said by a ford engineer i believe that it is all about cafe standards and the 5w20 oil can save something like a 1/2 mpg and when multiplied by all the vehicles that is a lot of course so they sacrifice the possible longevity of the motors for that.
some good reading

Re: Motor oil?
I found Castrol full synthetic at autozone in 5-50. Was the only brand I found anywhere in the correct weight. My plan is to order some royal purple online before my next oil change.

Re: Motor oil?
Last weekend I went on a hunt for oil. My first change really sneaked up on me. I looked all over for 5w-50 with very little luck. Like David i had to use Castrol Edge 9full syn). There are just not a lot of people that make that weight of oil.
What I Found: There are 3 main oils that I consider "top-Tier" . Royal Purple, AMSOIL and Redline. Out of those three, Redline is the only one that makes our weight. From what I found thus far, Castrol is the only one that makes our weight in the mainstream syn oils. Them and Motorcraft. Mobile 1 and Valvoline are rumored to make it, but I have not been unable to find it. I looked at Walmart, Advanced, O'Reily's...
I will be ordering Redline for the next change.

Re: Motor oil?
I wouldnt stick with Mobile 1, its not what it used to be. They use a sub par base stock to keep cost down.
I am using fords Motorcraft 5w-50 because I have been lazy of late and had the dealership change my oil. Plus it keeps a record Im taking care of the car if somethign should happen. BUT know that Motorcraft 5w-50 shears to a 40w very quickly, so changing it more frequently is needed.
Amsoil is your #1 choice and like paul said is Top tier. But it gets expensive. My choice after I stop being lazy is the Redline 5w-50. Redline has shown some very good #'s after being tested in well used and raced GT500's.
Nice little oil thread over on SVTperformance if you have time to kill

I'm thinking Royal Purple too. My 3 year warranty is up in the next couple of months.

Re: Motor oil?
as mentioned above... They don't make Royal in our weight... (5w-50).
We should lobby RP for it though!

Re: Motor oil?
That sucks about the RP, but the redline is good stuff also. I've used it in the past with good success.

Your 3 year bumper to bumper may be up....BUT I believe you have a 5 year 60,000 mile drivetrain warranty, which covers the motor and driveline
