5-Speed Swap for $1000?
Found a guy on the deadhorse forums who has a fully built v6 motor and drivetrain, built for the same supercharger i am planning to install. I cant afford his built motor (working on my own), but his drivetrain setup has caught my eye.
He has:
Tremec TKO 500 T5 TRANSMISSION
SPEC clutch
Frpp aluminum flywheel
Steeda Tri-ax shifter
Steeda adjustable clutch cable and double hook quadrant
Pedals with bullitt covers
Gt shift boot and knob
3.8 bellhousing
Pilot bearing
5spd ecu with pats disabled
Frpp aluminum driveshaft
5spd harness
Sounds like a damn good deal, but dont know mileage on the clutch, but he says the tranny is near new. Would definitely swap the tri ax out for an mgw, but other than that its exactly whay i want.
I dont have the cash sitting around for it, so he said he would take my auto trans pan, wiring harness, and torque converter as partial payment, and then let me either make payments or give him store credit toward future builds on the rest.
Opinions?

Re: 5-Speed Swap for $1000?
Much cheaper to just purchase a GT
Being different sometimes....isnt ....cool
Seriously...all the money your spending and only going to be around the same power as a bolt on GT and still have the sound of a V6. Just doesnt seem worth it to me.
Dont take this the wrong way as I encourage being different, but economically it doesnt seem to add up. You would be better off financially (on resale and horsepower per $ spent) if you purchased a GT.
Just throwing my 2 cents out there. You dont have to agree.

Re: 5-Speed Swap for $1000?
I respect the opinions, but I must personally disagree. Had I started fresh, and bought a GT over a V6, yes. But I was a college student with a ton of student loans, a crappy credit history as an 18 year old with 3 credit cards (which I don't suggest to anyone), and a tuner with a blown motor. I wanted a Mustang, but with my credit and the people that would deal with my I would've paid $15k for a 100k mile 2000 GT. I wanted a GT 5-Speed, but the lots that could deal with me didn't have any, and rather than get a cash car and wait, I bought what I have.
I just got this paid off, and rather than go out, trade this is for $3000 and take on another car payment, I am going to modify what I have. A supercharged V6 has a nice ring to it, and I can build a pushrod motor for around $1500 reliably, and I have a total investment of $800 in my complete supercharger kit. While it runs and I am having fun with it, I'll keep it. If I get bored, or decide I truly have no hope, I will do a 4V Swap. But to me the cost of a GT motor and everything associated with it will do much better suited as performance parts for what I have. For my generation there was a 90 hp difference between the GT and the V6. And the V6 was severely detuned as it was designed for fuel economy. I've had a custom tune, and released a lot more through a more aggressive tune that I am happy with.
The same guy with this swap has a Fully Built V6 that, with a base M112 tune, will get 422 rwhp and still retains 28 mpg.
I appreciate your V8 love, but I guess I still have a little import blood in me...

Re: 5-Speed Swap for $1000?
I'm sorry... I get what you're trying to do. But have to go with J-Rod of this. You're not gonna get 400+ hp out of the that stock bottom end. You might a couple times... but not a reliable 400+ There's a lot more to it than just sticking a Eaton on it. There's a lot more money involved too.
Don't wanna rain on your parade... Just my opinion.

Re: 5-Speed Swap for $1000?
Oh, I don't plan to go beyond 400hp with the stock block. I already have a spare motor that I am building while playing with this one.
The m112 on a stock motor will put about 325. Add methanol to bump the timing will give you another 30, a cam will get some more, flowing heads will do some more, and then redo the bottom end to support it all...
That's one reason that I haven't put the Heaton on... because there is more to it...

Re: 5-Speed Swap for $1000?
Methanol costs money, cam and install...more money...flowing heads...costs more money...bottom end...even more money and the labor/time to build it....random parts to complete the project...more money.
It adds up and in the end you're in even deeper into a vehicle you chose due to financial obligations
Good luck with your build, hope it works out....I just dont think its finacially worth it.

Re: 5-Speed Swap for $1000?
While they have a very solid argument about cost of doing all this, I say that modding your car is really not about being economical, its all about what makes you happy. Therefore I say do whatever the hell you want to it. I see people all the time with cars that I would never spend the money to buy or to mod how they have modded them. This doesn't make the cars any less respectable though. If Lee wants to supercharge his sixxer and dump $1k into the transmission then go for. And as for the initial question, I say get that slushbox outa there.

While I completely agree with you about doing what makes you happy, if you read what Lee posted about why he went this route with a V6, it was due to "finances"...thus why our conversation is about economically sound choices.
Like I said in previous posts.... do your thing....do it your way.
Just remember the ribbing is all in good fun and in the end its your car, but we will always have opinions
Were just looking out for you Lee

Re: 5-Speed Swap for $1000?
???? You can't buy SS Braided Fuel Line from Autozone (at least not the one in Owasso), and I don't need 10 feet of it at $12.88 a foot from Summit, so I was seeing if someone had a little laying around I could have...

$120 will be probably about the cheapest bill on that build.
We'll just trying to give you good advice.
