Getting new tires! Need help! :)
Okay first off, do 335's grip much better than 295's? Cuz 335's are ALOT more expensive so I want to know if they are worth it.
Also what tires do you recommend for good dry grip and decent wet grip, well not decent grip but you know something drivable in the rain?
If I get 295's my price range is prolly about 230$ per tire.
Btw I have 18's and I can fit 335's as my fenders are already rolled so that's not a problem.

what are the width of your wheels. chances are you aren't going to want 335's anyway. you have to get a proper fitting tire for your wheel. going wider isn't really better.

Re: Getting new tires! Need help! :)
I went to hibdon to talk to a guy about it and get some quotes, haha 1600 bucks for the two back ones of the tire they put on 911 carrera's. So yeah he said I could fit 335's but they'd probably hit if I turned to fast so I think I'm gonna play it safe and go with a 295. Yeah I've heard good things about the KDW 2's.

Re: Getting new tires! Need help! :)
that's why i asked how wide your wheels are. just because you CAN fit them doesn't mean they are going to perform better.
the first set of the kdw's i went with were 285 on a 9.5" wheel. that is the recommended tire width for that size wheel i have. next time i went with the same exact tire only went with a 295. this was wider than recommended, but would still fit. i ended up loosing traction with the tire that fit, but was wider than recommended. i'll be going with dr's next time and will go with the recommended tire width rather than what looks better because it's wider.

Re: Getting new tires! Need help! :)
Alright well I'll just have them measure it or is there a way to get an accurate measure with the tire on?

my first set of kdw's i had only lasted me about 15k on the rear, but that was soley because i abused them and did many many burnouts. the second set on the rear lasted about 25k and got replaced because the tire shop damaged them. they still had about 5k left on them before i wouldnt' want to use them.
after that 1st set i stopped doing burnouts and also got some et streets for the track.

if you know the brand of wheel you can likely figure it out. the only thing that bothers me (a very little bit) is the kdw's are a bit noisy on the highway, but i also seldom listen to the radio.

Okay the guy at Hibdon must think I burnout everywhere then, he said I would get about 4-6k miles on any tire...

My exhaust and stereo is usually all I hear, plus I'm hardly on the highway. Occasionally if I'm late to school that's about it.

Re: Getting new tires! Need help! :)
you'll get about that if you are burning out alot on some DR's, but not the 555's or the kdw's.
if you do get the kdw's make sure they get these and not the ones that come stock.

Re: Getting new tires! Need help! :)
try an online place:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=g-Force+T%2FA+KDW+2&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=935YR8GFTAKDW2&tab=Sizes
i think there is someone one the forum that works for a local (to you) tire place. i'd put up a thread asking who works at a tire place & see what they can do.
the first time i ordered from the site i posted (tire rack) and had them installed at firestone

as always your best option is to call around and tell each place you call the best deal you have found and see if they will beat that price. absolutely spend the extra money for the warranty even if you think you can't afford it. also make sure all quotes you get include mount, balance, & road hazard

Oh one last question, is sumitomo a cheap brand? I thought I saw someone say that on some forum and that's what I have and I don't hook for crap.

decent & cheap. i wouldn't ever buy them, but i'm also not in high school (guessing you are). you won't get great traction. maybe not even good. tires are absolutely one of the things that the saying is true "you get what you pay for".

Discountire.com or Tirerack.com should get you good pricing. I dont know what tire they quoted you for $800 a piece...thats ridiculous.
I had the KDW 2s on my 07. They did a decent enough job dry and wet.

Do you know of any better gripping tires besides some drag radials?

Like mention above, go to Tirerack.com. They have a whole section on tire tests. You'll find what you want based on how you drive your car. Plus ricky ticky shipping.

I mean there are some great tires out there....the Nitto 555s, KDW 2's, Michelin Pilot sport P2s, Continental DWS Extreme tires (This is my next purchase as they are all season tires, plus the shelby and porche guys love them). BUT all seem to be a good choice in tire.
If your wanting better traction than that, you are going to have to go to a drag radial...which will only last you about 5000-8000 miles depending on driving habits. Plus your going to pick up every rock you roll over. Not my recommendation if you daily drive this car.
