New Mods arrived :)
1) AirRaid Filter
2) VMP 2.59 pulley with idler
3) VMP 91 tune
Still need a pulley puller to do the install if I can borrow one from someone. Pretty excited to feel the difference in power.
Also kinda worried about heatsoak after the install.....I cruise my car a lot and in traffic and I dont want to get caught with someone wanting to play and my car pulling timing and throwing a boat anchor out the window....
Next purchase will be a dual fan heat exchanger

I've got a set of pullers you're welcome to use, Jerbear. Come by and pick them up, or I could bring them to Flufferville next Saturday.

Oh, these may not work - I believe they're gear pullers; each puller has three "ears" that latch on to the back side of the gear, with a center post that presses on the bolt in the middle of the gear.

Guess I need to put my pulley on as well since it has been sitting in my garage for 2 years. I want a dual fan heat exchanger and 3:73's as well though....

I need to get the 3.73s or 4.10s installed especially now that all the snow is gone. I'm happy with my Shelby Radiator and dual fan heat exchanger. :)Oldokie wrote:Guess I need to put my pulley on as well since it has been sitting in my garage for 2 years. Re: New Mods arrived :)
kinda off topic but kinda not. is it true what im reading that most CAI require a new tune? ive looked at a couple and they have all said they require a tune? maybe just me but that seems a little crazy for the couple extra hp ur gonna get from it.

Yes, retune is a must, most cai have larger mass air meter which changes everything. Don't believe the bs k&n says about no retune, those where proven to be very lean with no tune. Your not gaining much from the cai anyways besides more blower whine, the power gain is in the tune. Its totally new car with just cai and tune.

Re: New Mods arrived :)
The good ones require a tune... ones that dont require a tune are not worth the time or money to install them...
Jarrod, who did you get these from? I cant afford to be a sponsor if no one buys from me...

Like david said...absolutely on the Tune with CAI. With the new found larger Mass Air and tubing the computer will not be able to adjust properly.
Cold air and Tune will definitely liven the car up in a very noticeable way....but again a Tune is a must or bad things happen. The computer does not have enough compensation to handle the large Mass air you will be putting on and the added air flow is enough to send your air/fuel mixture lean.
I would suggest the JLT or C&L CAI and a tune from Justin at VMP. Both have proven to be very effective. Might find what you like and see if any forum vendors can get you a better price than whats advertised on the site.

Re: New Mods arrived :)
Justin does email tunes, but they are incredibly accurate and about the same as a dyno tune...

No problem...I miss my '85. Basically there are tuners out there like Jon Lund with Lethal Performance and Justin Starkey with VMPTuning that have had hundreds of GT500s on their personal dynojets and have tested over and over again hundreds of combinations. They know about where the tune needs to be for your mods. You can order the CAI and Tuner as a package and will include 3 tunes of your choice. Once you get these tunes you can plug your tuner into your car, upload the tune (you have a port just below your left knee under the dash...tune uploads just like a computer program on your desktop.....you then can plug the tuner into your car again.... and plug a USB cable to your labtop and datalog some WOT runs.
Once you've dataloged you email the tuner that information from your run and they make adjustments. Its like a dyno tune, but remote. Justin at VMP allows 3 datalogs to dial in the perfect and safe tune.
Pretty nifty. These cars are very predictable due to the computer technology...there isnt a lot of difference from each. GT500s run on certain perameters and when a mod is added its very predictable one what adjustments need to be made.
Once I install my tune, I will most likely jump on Vangs dyno here in Tulsa and see where the tune is at for a baseline.
I went with Justin at VMP as he owns a GT500 and tests everything on his car....hes well known and very good.

I would not hesitate to go with Jon Lund or Justin Starkey. They know GT500s like no other tuners in the country. These emailed tunes are usually very good and spot on once dialed in.
Call Justin at VMP when you are ready....he can answer any and all questions and will set you at ease. He knows his stuff.
