The Build begins
Well today my car rolled out of the trailer to start the tear down process. I will do an update as i can with the progression and pictures as i get around to it. will hopefully have the motor torn apart and to the machine shop within a week to find out if i can use my block. If not its an Aluminator for me.

Re: The Build begins
Well as it starts I am leaning towards going to a 5.0 stroker that is if i can get the crank from D'agostino Racing since it seems that ford has a hold till April on all stroker cranks. Hoping that my block is good that will be the base plan. if not i will be looking into the new short block and replacing some factory parts.
As far as internals We are shopping around on pistons rods ect.. looking into eagle and manley, This car will be topped off with either a TVS when the price becomes a little more negotionable or the Kenne Bell 2.1. so strong toss up between the two. Right now i am wanting a good base. i am on my 3rd motor and there has always been a rod or main bearings go out. something has been the weak link. so hoping by spring i will have one bad N/A motor that has the capabilities to handle upwards of 750hp.

Re: The Build begins
well first update. Block off at the machine shop and heads are out for port and polish. i am going to load the car back up tomorrow for the time being.. more room in the shop without it. one question though. Does anyone have the ability to do painting during these cold times?. We do paint work but we do not have temps for the paint to set. so anyone would be helpful. just looking to get the front bumper repainted.

Unique Collision Center in Tulsa FTW... did my car along with a lot of others... definite recommendation...
Re: The Build begins
Good question....not sure on the heat. Are you looking to paint it yourself? Or are you looking for a shop? Most shops have the ability to bake the paint/clear, so I dont believe temps should be an issue.

Well normally we can do paint work ourselves but with our shop this time of year its hard to keep the heat up. another local paint shop priced everything at $250 out the door. which isn't bad considering I would have to but the supplies that i need to paint it here. But I just didn't know if someone on here had a shop that was able to paint year round that would have more competitive pricing. As far as the Machine work I am letting Archangel use their foot in the door to get everything done for me. I know the guys up there pretty well and they have worked well with finding places for everything. I was having a hard time finding a stroker crank and mike put in alot of time trying to find one. So after they do all the work they will blueprint the motor for me and give me a tune until i can get my hands on a good kb kit. If anyone has a kit for a 2v they want to get rid of let me know.

Yeah This is the 3rd motor and it is becoming a pain. We had the motor out and torn apart and was running into alot of dead leads when it came to getting work done such as machine work and the port and polish. I live in a small town with not alot of resources and i have went through Archangel before on some tips. So i called Kurtis after dealing with my local shop. and he was able to make arrangements for me to drop the motor off with him. he sent it out and will be back within a few weeks. That is one reason this build has taken so long. I blew the motor up last june and it sat in the garage growing weeds. so finally even if it cost more than if i did it my self the outcome will hopefully last longer than 4 months like the last motor.

actually yes we did build the second motor ourselves. and it was a hassle. with school and kids and trying to move i just dont have time or space to deal with tearing down and building a motor. vernier micrometers are your friend!... yeah well not in my tool arsenal.

Re: The Build begins
Sounds like an awesoem build man but a TVS or 2.1 is not going to be your best option on a 5.0, I would do a 2.6, or if they still make them (Modular Powerhouse, or now Mr. Norms[Andy]) a 2.8 kit.

Well as the winter has slowed everything down i have been talking to some different people about the options on cams and what type of charger i need. I have been toying with the idea of the Mammoth 2.8 or going a completely different direction and getting a Twin turbo setup from D'Agostino Racing or someone comparable.

Re: The Build begins
The kit from D'Agostino is a HP Performance Kit, I was going to use it but decided against it when I heard the TERRIBLE reviews of it. It fits good apparently but most people have waited up to a year for it. Go Hellion Custom or go home as far as I'm concerned.
Custom: This would be the one I would do, well I am doing it(eventually!) There are a few companies I talked to one is BG Custom Turbo, one of his Kits would be cheaper than a Hellion and would be VERY good quality. Another is HPP Racing, they are probably right above Hellion, they cost a little more also. But for the love of god don't go with HP Performance.

Well thats good to know. The reason i was looking at their kits was just due to me being a previous customer. but i am open to options. I am still stuck in a toss up on which way to go. twin or kb
