Sounds like you may have to bite the bullet. But you can get a second opinion and take it to someone else for repair, now that you know what's wrong. I had a clutch put in . . . dealership 1200 bucks, friend with proshop and lift $400.... time and money saved, priceless.

Re: Please clicky and advise
Benji has done a lot of work for the club. He knows his stuff. I'd say at the least do the flush and get fresh oil in it. RIGHT NOW before you drive it another foot! The other stuff... might not be needed right at this moment and can be done (as long as it's not spewing fluids all over the place) over the next couple months.
Considered yourself lucky that you're not buying a new motor. I'd also, try to find out why you're losing oil... Burnning it? Leaking it? what? It's the norm for these motors for burn a quart or so over a period of an oil change. Especially if the period is 8k miles. But not 5 quarts.

Just don't take chances with your motor, better some repairs than a whole new one. Paul is actually right about something, mark that on your calendar.

Re: Please clicky and advise
Ok, I am not telling anyone who is right or wrong, just going by our prices we have at the shop. All prices don't include tax.
Axle seals both sides, parts/labor 265
p/s pump parts/labor 275
coolant flush is like 120ish
oil flush we don't do much here cause its a bs service in my mind is maybe 150 tops.
Diag usually runs around 100.
Everything in that list looks legit, I see pumps and axle seals leak alot on
mustangs. The oil flush, ehhhh, more harm then good sometimes.

FLush and oil change at the minimum. everything else can be done over time.
A lot of that 1400 is labor. You can do most of it on a weekend on your own, like an oil change . If you don't want to do the work yourself, pony up the money and be done with it.

I agree normally the flush is BS... however, if he did run on a 1 quart for a while... it might be a good idea to make sure there are no metal shaving etc are left over.

Re: Please clicky and advise
Okay, here is the breakdown/answers I got.
Chuck said Benji couldn't get a definitive answer of why it burned up so much oil. He also said even if I talked to Benji, I'd get the same answer (I asked to talk to Benji)
Right off the bat, $80 service / diagnostic fee
They charge $95 an hour labor
Oil flush / change $109.95
Coolant flush $159.95
Power steering pump $230 - 3 hrs labor $285
Rear axle seals $75 - 3.5 hrs labor $332
Right now I am just electing to do oil flush / change

Take it to Leonard . . . he has better prices, and I trust him with my car and my life :)

Re: Please clicky and advise
axle seals pay 1.7 here, p/s pump pays 1.5 labor. The axle seal parts prices seem right on, power steering pump, I checked 04 cobra and 04 mustang gt p/s pump, seem to run same pump and its 105 for pump.

Re: Please clicky and advise
I would do the oil and flush.
Power steering pump and Coolant flush can be done on an afternoon. Rear axle seals, maybe leonard would be kind enough to do it on the side and hook you up.

Better yet, take it to leonard and have him do it. The prices are better. But we do like you supporting our club sponsor. :)

I bought her from Bob Hurley back in Feb of 05. They have done all the work on her. Benji and Steven (I think? They both garage right next to each other) have always done the work on her only. I never had a trustworthy reliable mechanic outside of them. Need one that is cheaper though

Re: Please clicky and advise
David works for peanuts, he has a sugar momma that pays for everything :-)
David has help most of us at one point or another. He does the work on the side through Bill Knight. Since it is not being run through the service department, he can knock a little off of the price and still use ford parts while doing it. Benji is a good guy, but kind of hard for him to do it on the side since you have already brought it in for service. I would do the minimum to get it running and out the door, then work on getting the rest of the stuff done at a later date. With exception the the seals, everything else you can do with a few hands tools and a case of beer. I have the tools, bring me a case of beer and I will help you with it.

Re: Please clicky and advise
Sounds like a tech day at my house or house that has all the needed tools soon then? Jerry and Leonard, you on board? Bob Hurley is only doing engine flush and oil change.
I'll need to have the rest done before winter.
Coolant flush
Axle seal replace
power steering replace
And that's the current
before this, I was looking into suspension change. My shocks/struts are shot. Looking at all new bushings, new shocks/struts at a minimum, or option 2 is the above plus new MM LCAs and lowering springs with CC plates and the other needed parts for the lowering.
Any ideas on that? Will need someone to install all the suspension stuff too

Re: Please clicky and advise
I will gather up some prices on pump and axles etc, thats not something you want to do in the driveway. It will be fair, I can do shock/struts also, wouldn't worry about caster/camber plates, if your vehicle drives straight all you need is steeda camber bolts, they are like 30 bucks so spend you money elsewhere instead of plates.

Im up for a tech day... how about next weekend???
I have a maximum motorsports clutch cable, quadrant and firewall adjuster I need to install.
I will ask Cox at the crusie if he is up for some people over... he usually requires help with another project, but its well worth it! has a sweet small but perfect lift in his garage.

It may be small but at least I have one!
I'll check with the boss to see if I'm free next weekend. I'll also figure out what projects I have coming up that could be done with some cheap manual labor...

Re: Please clicky and advise
I am really free every weekend with my new job. I just got out of retail hours and back to corpo hours. Gotta check with the boss to make sure (1) I am free, although thinking about it, next weekend is Halloween weekend so time may be limited (2) we have the funding right now to get the other things needed done (axle seals, coolant flush, and power steering pump), I may have to go a few weeks on getting those three other problems resolved and wait for Leonard 95 to get me some numbers too; my suspension is still aways out. I haven't pinned anything down on that yet, but need too as Bettie squeaks like none other, and the shocks/struts make a wicked bad noise on the smallest of bumps at low speed. Oddly enough with my suspension issues, at highway speeds, it is fine as far as noise and ride quality. At a minimum I could hang, you all could check Bettie out and/or take her for a drive? I want to re-do my PCV oil catch can lines I just re-did a few weekends ago. Just gunna replace the worm gear clamps with spring clamps. Worm gears are shiny silver, and I wanna make all of them less noticeable, so want to go to black spring clamps. A cheap easy half hour fix.
I forgot to mention, any that help me on my 3 items above, and future suspension changes I want/need done, and future projects, will get food and drink on me... with some limit. I am sure some out there can eat and drink all day/night long if it is free
I'll make sure the help is fed and drunk enough to not be a liability to themselves or bosses at home, lol
Anyone know how to change a door lock actuator for an 05 Acura TSX? Acura want $160 to do it for a $30 part, and after reading forums on how to do, I read many time "watch out for stripping these" which has pretty much scared me from doing it. Some instructions here: http://tsx.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690275
I'll be picking her up from Bob Hurley tomorrow at lunch
The word from Benji was some metal shavings came out on the engine flush, but not very much at all, and not enough to be worried about any internal problems
Somewhere around $200 out the door bill from them

Im sure we can get whatever you can afford done, and if not we can do it another time. I am always free on most weekends as is Jerry and we live like next door, so as you get stuff, we can always try to get them done.
If we can get a tech day going for next weekend, come out if you can and we will do what we can! Jerry and I still have SN95's, so we dont mind working on them!
