Attention all shelby owners : temporary mobility kit lifespan
it recently came to my attention that our temporary mobility kits have a 48 month lifespans, after which the gel cartridge has to be replaced. i urge all Shelby owners to check their mobility kits for an expiration date, it will be on the top of the kit, you may have to remove the hold down strap to see it. an example is my Shelby GT is a 2007. however the kit in my car was manufactured in 2006, the gel goes bad in 2 months. i will post the cartridge part number and price Tuesday when i get them.
and for those of you who have never checked your trunks no we don't have spare tires. this may also extend to 2010 model year owners as well. i have read that spare tires are optional for 2010+ standard(v6,gt,2011 5.0) models and any one with the Brembo upgrade package WILL have a temporary mobility kit as no spare tire will fit over the Brembo brakes.

Re: Attention all shelby owners : temporary mobility kit lifespan
all Shelby's are equipped with the Continental conticomfortkit AKA the temporary mobility kit. its an electric pump with a single use gel cartridge attached to it. the Shelby's have it instead of a spare tire. it plugs into your lighter for power.
once used the cartidge must be replaced. the gel is good for 120 miles at 50 mph.
unfortunately the gel has a 48 month lifespan from date of manufacture, this is specific to the unit and not the vehicle.
once you use it on a tire the wheel must be disassembled and cleaned and your TPMS sensor may or may not have to be replaced.

actually its not fix-a-flat, its a proprietary gel blend with hardeners in it. its like a temporary glue, just minus the mess. its step above fix-a-flat....its fix-a-flat plus!
the cool thing is you can use the pump as a stand alone air pump. the cartridge is only fired when you twist the charging side of the unit up cutting the seal and emptying the cartridge into the pump.

and add 40 pounds? most certainly not! plus if you have big brakes the spare donut wont fit. on a side note if you buy a spare it MUST be the same diameter as the tires its suppose to be a spare for. if its smaller then damage to your differential can occur.

Calm down fluffer just harrassing ya
Re: Attention all shelby owners : temporary mobility kit lifespan
fix-a-flat, call AAA and be done with it! Any gel you put inside of tire is just crap and messes the sensors up.

Hmmmmm. Interesting. Haven't run in the Shelby at hallett. My plan on this car is to have plenty of HP so that it performs well in all environments. This would include hallett. Perhaps soon young paddewan.

7.4 at 100mph to the 1/8 mile before I missed 4th gear and broke clutch. That was only 3rd pass down track with this car, 7.4 equals 11.4 to 11.5 range in 1/4 mile. So slap your intake and cams on cause, better put some n20 or a blower cause your gonna need it. BTW, those times where with stock blower which isn't on the car no more ya know!

Most do cause most of them try to hook up 500 to 600rwhp on street tires and are old guys driving them. My first pass in my car was 12.5 and it had like a 2.3 60ft still. Trust me, you just can't dump the clutch and go on the gt500s, to much weight and torque.

Pretty sad. Saw a new 5.0 run a 11.3 with just a 100 shot.

That's impressive, but you got to think that's probably close to 500rwhp and easily over 500 rwtq! But your probably close at the limits with motor and tranny at that power level.

Re: Attention all shelby owners : temporary mobility kit lifespan
HP is cool and all but it's impressive that you can buy a 100 shot kit for 5-600 bucks and run that good. Besides the N2o and a set of drag Radial, it was bone stock (tune of course). Imagine if you tweaked the suspension, etc. Really an incredible Bang for the Buck.
How much have you spent on yours to run that quick? Close to 10k?

Re: Attention all shelby owners : temporary mobility kit lifespan
Not even close to 10k when I ran those times. At the time all I had was tune, pulley, cold air, susp and drag radials. Maybe 3 grand there, of couse that's not including my rims which I didnt need to go that fast. 5.0s are for sure badass, but I will still take a gt500 over a 5.0 anyday of the week just on looks alone. Something about buying new car and spraying 100 or more shot just doesn't do it for me. I want power all the time, no when the bottle is full or when the bottle has enough psi.

Re: Attention all shelby owners : temporary mobility kit lifespan
Didn't you buy a new blower? That 5k right there...
Not saying the N2O is the way to go, but it really says something about the potencial of these cars. Impressive. I'd do an SC for sure. The guy that owned the 5.0 also had a 2011 GT500. Since I've been debating between the 5.0 and GT500 (2011 GT500 only, I want to alum block not the boat anchor) I asked him what he thought. He said he'd take the 5.0 hands down. Which rather surprised me.
The 5.0 has a real spare too! :) (Didn't want to get off topic. :)
