Edumicate me on s197 rearend parts...
Do all s197 v8 cars come from the factory with 31 spline axles/differential? Will a 31 spline differential out of a 2005 GT work in a 2002 GT?

Yep all of them have the 31 spline. Not sure on the ladder... I don't see why not. Unless one is longer/shorter than the other.

Re: Edumicate me on s197 rearend parts...
Just curious cause I saw a 31 spline t-lok on eBay that came out of a 2005 GT. I put another stock axle in mine friday and discovered there is some pretty nasty damage to the spider gears in my 28 spline t-lok.

The differential part would work no problem, the axles I would bet are different. I would imagine s197 axles are longer since are cars are wider than the sn95's.

Yeah, I already have a plan for the axles. Just didn't know if the actual differential was any different. Thanks guys!

As long as its a 8.8 it should work.

Re: Edumicate me on s197 rearend parts...
I bid on it. The bidding ends on the 21st. Hopefully I can win the bid and then order my axles. I hate not driving the GT with the weather this nice!
I'm still shocked that it broke on the 1-2 shift and not the launch! Although I'm pretty sure the initial damage likely occurred on the launch.

The trick is to bid with just a few min left. You dont want to bid up the part you want...days before.

I didn't put my max bid in yet. I just wanted to find out the reserve price.
It would suck to wait until the last minute and then put a bid in that didn't meet the reserve!

Re: Edumicate me on s197 rearend parts...
Congrats! Food for thought. You could call strange and see if the part number for SN95 31 splines are the same as S197 axles. If it's the same then the stock 05 up stuff would work in your application.

Re: Edumicate me on s197 rearend parts...
Thanks David! I did a little research and the s197 axles are longer than a new edge. If I read correctly, they are both different lengths as well. 32-13/16" for one and 31-11/16" for the other. The ones I need are 30-11/16".
I pulled those lengths from the Moser website.

Re: Edumicate me on s197 rearend parts...
Well, eBay guy wanted me to send the payment to a different address than was listed in the auction, so no go on the s197 differential! However, I did find a brand new 31 spline LSD for a better price and it arrived yesterday afternoon! The axles should be here early next week and hopefully next weekend I'll get it all buttoned back up and on the road!

I got everything put back together last night. Took it for a drive and everything seems to be ok. No noises or odd feelings. Hopefully it stays that way!
