Fall Cruise Ideas
We're currently throwing around idea for this years list of events and wanna get your thoughts. We're basically building the calendar....
As some of you know, The Fall Cruise is one of the big events of the year. We normally cruise to Eureka Spring for the first day and then somewhere the second day. Last year we did Eureka and then Silver Dollar City...
It's a great time, but what do you think about changing the route this year? What about a route 66 cruise to say Santa Rosa or Santa Fe NM. I did a trip out there about a year ago and it was pretty cool. Tons of old ghost towns that you can walk into the buildings, in fact they look like people just got up and left. In a few years, these will be gone. Look at my personal photo gallery for pics... There's also, great stops along the way like Route 66 museums, landmarks like the Cadillac Ranch and of course the Big Texan Restaurant just to name a few.
Give me your thoughts or it you have other ideas, let me know!

Re: Fall Cruise Ideas
Some of these old ghost towns would make for some cool Photo opps as well. I have never done any part of Route 66, except for the short section here in Tulsa that goes down 11th ST. We could also go north on 66 and hit up St Louis, maybe try to go to a ball game, see the arch, and six flags. Don't know what there is in the way of Ghost towns on the northern route.
my two cents, either one sounds cool and different

Re: Fall Cruise Ideas
There's not really a whole lot left on the northern route. A lot of the buildings have been demolished for parking lots and malls etc.
The thing about NM is that there's nothing out there. That's pretty cool in it's own. You really feel like you're out of the city (which we see everyday).
The ghost towns are just sitting 1/4 mile or so off I 40. You can see why they are now ghost towns. The interstate just passed them by. ..
And yes! Very cool photo ops.

Re: Fall Cruise Ideas
I'm all for a Route 66 cruise instead of the fall Eureka Springs tour. The Big Texan should be a must stop! I've been there many a time (it's just 100 miles or so from where I was raised); it's every non-Texan's image of all of Texas. Cadillac Ranch is so-so any more; it was more special 30 years or so when Stanley built it (and before the taggers took over). I'd love to see some of the ghost towns in NM; that would be great! If we want to go a little further, the area around Taos is really neat, too.

We passed by that Big Texan last week when we were in Amarillo. Wasn't real hungry at the time or we might have given it a try...

Re: Fall Cruise Ideas
Sorry.... had to do it. It's what I do.
Side note... Every Caddie there looked like it had 1500 coats of paint on it. Still cool though. It's as Americana as it gets.

Hey Chris! How's it going?
The Big Texan is a pretty funny / qurky place. We did stop, but didn't eat. Just had to stop to say we've been there.

Re: Fall Cruise Ideas
I know this is kind of off topic, but have we thought about doing a weekend at the lake. I know we could do skiatook in their ten area, you can get as many people as you want in that site. Just a thought, some fun drunken times at the lake.

We did the illinois river last year. It was a good time. We can do a lake outing/picnic family day.

Been doing well. Not much time lately for anything. Did manage to stay down at Greenleaf Park this past weekend but the cabins were disappointing to say the least so we left after the first night. It was Friday the 13th.

Re: Fall Cruise Ideas
Not sure how much money I am going to have for this since we hare going to have to pay to go to Jarrods wedding and that should really put a dent in the bank account but St.Louis is where i use to live so I would obviously be ok with that trip but the further we go the more it is going to end up costing..

Ronny... we'd have to stop every 3 miles for gas if you drove your ride! ;)
Actually... Ft. Sumner of Billy The Kid fame is only 40 miles south of Santa Rose.
