Re: HOW TO GET OUT OF THE 12 SECOND RUTT!!
Just trying to get a feel for who I am dealing with here. Some buy a $25.000 car and drop in a 5k supercharger. Others buy a 5000.00 Nova and put in a $20,000 engine. To each his own I say.

GUESS IT DEPENDS ON YOUR CREDIT. HARD TO LIEN A 20,000 DOLLAR ENGINE ON A 5,000 DOLLAR CAR. YOULL HAVE BETTER LUCK WITH THE MUSTANG, CHEAPER TO MAKE THE PAYMENT AND SPEND LESS ON PARTS. AND STILL BE SLOW.KevinGT wrote:Just trying to get a feel for who I am dealing with here. Some buy a $25.000 car and drop in a 5k supercharger. Others buy a 5000.00 Nova and put in a $20,000 engine. Just curious, anyone know what a stock Nova ran, ya know, before someone drop a custom built motor into it because the original one was sh*t. There is probably a reason Chevy went with the Camaro and not the Nova when bringing back a retro vehicle.

ah the 71 Nova SS....... now you would see that if by chance he would have had the sought after 69 that came with a 396 ci that would stand head to head stock with our GT's then he could be talking all this smack, but nope. he has a 71 which put's out a big whopping 270hp IF it received the four barrel carb. now given this site doesn't have a 1/4 mile time for the 71. it does have one for the 66 that came with a 327 ci producing 350hp at 5800. his 350ci produced 270 at 4800 so i'd say that would likely but it in the 16 sec range. can anyone say slow mobile. so mister chevy how about you go sit in your corner with your pointy hat on or go do your homework before you talk trash about nearly stock cars. i've done only a cai, tune, lca's, and tires and run in the 12's. when i put my heads, cams, and bottle on i'll be mid 11's. really i don't even have to do the heads and cams i just want to.

1971 Chevrolet Nova SS
The 1971 Chevrolet Nova SS saw even more radical changes. With the muscle era on the wane, Chevy dropped the 396 from the Nova in ’71. The surviving 350 two-barrel had 245 horses while the four-barrel offered 270. An 8.5:1 compression ratio allowed these engines to burn regular gas.
Gone along with the front-fender hash marks were many of the SS’s mechanical and chassis upgrade options. Nova SS output skidded to 7015 units. Late in the ’71 model year, Chevy brought out the Rally Nova, essentially a tarted-up SS.
1965-1972 Chevrolet Nova SS Specs
Though Chevy’s Nova Super Sport was never a style leader, it was the compact for serious speed enthusiasts. Get specifications on the Nova SS model years 1965-1972:
The all-new 1968 Chevrolet Nova SS had a 350-cid V-8. This body style carried through 1972 with few changes. |

Re: HOW TO GET OUT OF THE 12 SECOND RUTT!!
ahhh while we're here let's look at the 1971 boss 351. hmmmmm and who will win this battle.........the 71 Nova SS or the 71 Mustang Boss 351.
1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351
Ford's reign of "Total Performance" was rapidly drawing to a close, but something was still kicking in its muscle car stall: the 1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351.
Based on the redesigned Mustang SportsRoof, the new Boss was built to qualify a Trans-Am counterpart, a purpose rendered moot by Ford's late-1970 retirement from most forms of organized racing. The upside was that the Boss 351 was probably the only 1971 performance car with a genuine competition-grade engine.
Unfortunately, it had to saddle up the biggest Mustang ever. Wheelbase for the 1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351 was up one inch, and the car gained 2.1 inches in overall length, 2.8 inches in width, and put on about 100 pounds. Its styling was influenced by the last of the Shelby models, which didn't survive into '71. That left the Mach 1 and Boss 351 as Mustang's similarly styled performance flag bearers.
Mach 1's top engine was the 429-cid Super Cobra Jet Ram Air. Its credentials were strong -- 11.3:1 compression, 375 bhp, 450 lb-ft of torque -- but its low-14 second ETs were slower than those of the Boss 351. The Boss had on its side less weight and exclusive use of a thoroughbred 351-cid V-8 that Car and Driver said made the "Z/28 look like a gas mileage motor."
Its rods were shotpeened and Magnafluxed and its heads, drawn from the Boss 302, had staggered valves and huge ports. It had a radical, solid-lifter cam, 11.0:1 compression, a 750-cfm four-barrel, and an honest 330 bhp. Ram-air induction, a Hurst-shifted four-speed, and a 3.91:1 Traction-Lok diff were standard.
The engine, remarkably tame on the street and a dervish on the track, teamed with a "competition" suspension that used F60Xl5 tires. Ultimate cornering power was high, but the car was ponderous and nowhere near as balanced as a Firebird Trans Am. Moreover, the cave-like cabin was frustratingly difficult to see out of, the ride was harsh, and the gauges and controls were poorly designed.
Mustang had gone from quarter horse to Clydesdale and its best version, Boss 351, lasted just one season. It was a fitting finish to Total Performance.
well there you have it ladies and miscreants. not only does the boss look so much better but it performs better than the nova ss. even if you were to opt for the larger engine mustang that was actually slower you would still be faster than the nova.

hey justin,
i'll give you the benifit of the doubt that your avitar is in fact you car even though i have yet to see any other pictures of it. i do like the nova's. very nice cars. i do however prefer the old firebirds.
as for the who cares what a stock nova would run. you are the one comparing your car that has been very highly moddified to cars that are just minor bolt-ons. being a good ole redneck has nothing to do with that. you are just straight up stupid if you think that is a good comparison.

I think it's the way you come across... All you do is bash. That's it. If you were to show others that you can be a respectful individual too that would be great. The problem is, nobody knows you and when all you do if bash, what the hell are people to think? Look at this thread for a prime example.
It's cool that you have a fast car. But you started all the smack talk. I like and respect all performance cars as do most on the forum. You''re the one that decided to go down the Ford vs. Chevy road.
