New guy, son of the skunk (nstycpe93)
Just joined last night. I work with Jerry and Jarrod at Hilti. I bought this car about a month ago.
Its had a long crazy history. It was bought new by someone and left stock
for about 50,000 miles. Then it was bought by Chris Richards, the
Saleen sales manager in NM. He had it for about 30,000 miles and in
that time the car was resprayed viper red, the block was bored out to a
306, vortech supercharger, and tremec tranny. He sold it sometime
around 1995 to a guy in Houston, TX. He only drove it about 3,000 miles
in 2 years, but in that time it was at MTI in Houston a lot. They did
an unreal amount of work to it. Aftercooler, aeromotive & paxton
complete fuel system, 10 rib pulley, baer brakes, full griggs
suspension kit with koni shocks, and an amazing alpine stereo system.
I guess eventually him and his girlfriend broke up and since she paid for
the mods he let her take the car. From there it was sold to some guy in
texas that only drove the car a few times and when he had problems with
it he parked it in the garage with a car cover. There it sat for about
11 years and was never driven. Eventually it was sold to a guy in
Austin who spend a year or so fixing the car because it sat so long. It
wasnt rusted or anything, but the fluids needed changing, aftercooler
rebuilt, etc. Due to financial issues he sold it to me.
So in nearly 15 years it was barely driven, but its finally getting its legs
stretched, by me. The car still needs a bit of work like getting tuned
and some small cosmetic stuff. But man is it fun to drive.

Re: New guy, son of the skunk (nstycpe93)
I got an amazing deal on it. I watched the forums for the right deal for 2 months.
I spent all day on it today fixing small stuff. Hopefully by the summer it will be perfect.

What are you fixing Robert? Did you ever get the heater core worked out?

Crooked ass hatchback. Fox's were notorious for having weak hinges, they bend too easily. Still not fixed, I need like 3 pairs of hands to hold it. I wish it was a notchback.
I check the voltage on the tps sensor, it was dead on.
Changed it to the right set of plugs and gapped right. It took 2 hours because of the intercooler. I had to change the plugs from the bottom.
Lots of little interior plastic needs to be reinstalled properly.
Guess What I Found! An old mouse nest from the previous owner. Little bastard chewed through the battery vent tube and balled up insulation for a nest. I hope thats the only thing he chewed on.

Wow looks like you've got your hands full!! My father has a 96 Cobra convertible that we found a mouse nest in. That little bastard chewed through the whole damn back seat!
Whats the car doing? Do you have a miss in the RPMs somewhere? Car stalling? Or did you just do some maintenance on the plugs and TPS?

Re: New guy, son of the skunk (nstycpe93)
were heater cores notorious for going bad too? my buddy has a fox with the same problem and ive heard it a couple of other times too.
Re: New guy, son of the skunk (nstycpe93)
The heater cores in probably 80% of the cars failed. I got lucky and when it busted it didnt go in the car.
Jarrod, the car needs to by dynoed and a chip cut for it. When you get past 5k rpms it bogs down.
I had a issue with it not wanting to start but got it fixed. The fuel pump was hooked up incorrectly.

Re: New guy, son of the skunk (nstycpe93)
Yeah my heater core went out on my 85 GT twice...piece of crap. Also went out on my Twin Brothers 82 GT and my older brothers 83 GT. Those things were a hassle. AND to even change the damn thing out you have to take the enitire dash out!! Almost drove me to drink.
So what are your predictions on why the car is bogging past 5k? Not enough fuel? Spark?
I guess you really wont be able to tell until you run it on the dyno.

Your truly a kind person. lol.
jarrod, im really not too sure. Across the rpm range Im not sure its reaching its potential. Im getting zero traction right now anyway, it needs drag radials. Its running decent for now, maybe next summer Ill have a few bucks saved up to dyno it.

Re: New guy, son of the skunk (nstycpe93)
If its just Bogging...and not missfiring or backfiring...that leads me to believe its fuel supply. Either the Pump, filter, etc. Sounds like a fuel starvation issue. I would bet that pump is still causing an issue somehow.

Great looking car! I had a '90 red GT that I drove for a good 10 yrs. I bet the Saleen is a blast.
