FILLED UP WITH BAD GAS BUT WAS TAKEN CARE OF Empty FILLED UP WITH BAD GAS BUT WAS TAKEN CARE OF

Post by Guest 10/8/2008, 12:31 pm

On Friday Oct 3rd my brother(grabber07) and I filled up our tanks with no ethenol 91 octane at a hole in the wall Valero off the BA and Elm accross from what used to be lynn hykie. We were both empty and filled completly up. My car on the way home which was only about a mile did kind of bog on me but didnt think much of it. The next morning I was driving to TECH day at Pauls and it was bogging down at about 3k rpm and the check engine light began to blink. I got to Pauls and asked Jarrod about it and he said his was doing the same thing so I went by there and gave him a piece of my mind. Later that night I called him back and told him we have to get the gas out of the car and he said he would sifen it out for us. I had bought a sifen about an hour befor this to see if i could do it myself. My brother and I got there at about 9:00pm and he had a hose and had a buddy help him and they started to sifen the gas out but it was not working so I pulled out my sifen pump and it did not work also. So we told the owner that they would have to go to Ford. He began to appoligize and said it was his fault. He checked his 91 octane tank and he said there was only 2 inches of gas left and said we probably got some water and crude in there. He said he would pay for the damages. He said it would be cheap. Took the cars to Bob Hurley on Monday morning and the Total cost to fix both cars came to $2,750. When we told the store owner the price he flipped out so we gave him the number to Zach the service advisor and Zach explained why all the services need to be performed and in the end he cut us a check for $2,500(they gave him a discount) and we just got our cars back last night about 7:00pm. Everything seems to be running fine. They replace the fuel pump, fuel filter, sending unit, flushed the fuel lines and injectors and cleaned the tank. and I droped the inoices off with him last night so he can make a claim on his insurance.
All in all I think he was a stand up guy and paid for his mistake and I think we got lucky. He could of said "prove that it was my gas". But he was a new business owner and has only owned the store for 3 months. Very nice guy. Ive heard some of the horrer storys from my wife and others at her work(insurance agent) and they said that claimes come in left and right and they have to fight to get the money.

You are probably lucky he was a new business owner. If he had been around that block a few times he would have known to tell you to piss off.. Without a gas receipt and you paying Ford to diagnose the problem he wouldnt have gave you shit.. And even then he would have probably had you deal with his insurance company and the claim check would have come to you so you would have had to wait.. Was the 2500 for both cars or just yours?

yes, $2,500 for both. The total came out to $1,375 for each but then they discounted the labor and some parts. I did make a claim with Valero because i did not think he would pay but since he did i just called Valero to drop the claim. He thought the total would be around 200.00 a car. I told him that i have know idea what ford charges for somthing like this. He just kept saying "its cheap, dont worry its cheap". So you can see why he flipped out. I think Zach had alot to do with this getting done because he explained that this is what is required for this type of damage to the car and if he only pays for the gas to be emptied that it if we every have a fuel related problem, the warrenty would not cover it because we were told it needed to be replaced and we refused. And Zach told him to get it all done because its not these guys fault and they should not have to void there warranty because of your gas.

Good to hear that it went well. I was really worried about you guys getting taken care of. My guess is that the station is watering their gas and paid up promptly to keep the media and attention from them. Most likely there are alot of others out there that are having similar problems that may not have reported any issue. Strike that one up for good luck. I need to take you two to the casino and have you pull some levers for me! LOL

Naa.. I worked at QT for a long time. All in ground tanks and I mean ALL of them have water in them. Over time it builds up and needs to be removed but its never gone.. Most of the QT tanks ran about 2 inchs of water on top fo the fuel. Its never a problems as long as you dont run the tanks too low. The ones at QT would shut down the pump before it got to the water. They probably either had an older system or a faulty system at that station and it didnt shut down when it was suppose to. But dont fool yourself they all have water. And its impossibly to water down the gas as they do not mix. The water will just settle on top of the fuel. Its actually not a bad thing either to have a little on top.. that creates a barrier between the gas and the air so it is harder for the fuel to evaporate out of the tanks on hot days..

Water I believe is heavier than Gas so it wouldnt be at the top...it would be at the bottom. Take a water bottle...poor water and gas in it and watch

FILLED UP WITH BAD GAS BUT WAS TAKEN CARE OF Empty Re: FILLED UP WITH BAD GAS BUT WAS TAKEN CARE OF

Post by Guest 10/9/2008, 12:17 pm

I talked to the guy that owns the SHELL STATION 100 yards to the north of there nest to Ferguson Pontiac. Nice guy. I told him what happened and he laughed. He said he thinks that Valero is not computer controlled. He assured me that his is all computer controlled and stop the pump when the fuel level gets to low and also he assured me that he has an electronic sensor on the filter and that if just one drop of water gets in the filter it automaticlly shuts the pump down and in his 11 years he has never had a customer put in bad gas because he is so diligent about checking all the syestems once a month. I think most gas stations are run like this these days except for the hole in the wall places that have to watch a needle on a gas gauge to see if the are low or use a stick in the pump.

He's kind of a funny guy. He is from japan or china not sure but funny none the less.

I thought the Guy that filled the tanks at QT told me that it set on top of the fuel in the tanks.. I have never tried adding water to my fuel to see but your more than welcome to try it out. Just use your gas not mine..

Yea i think fuel is lighter than water so water will settle at the bottom so if you let it get to low, all you filling up with is alot of water.
