MODS VS. RODS SHOOTOUT 9-27-2008

Ok gang, The OKDHM Oklahoma Deadhorse Mustang group is putting on the Mods Vs. Rods shootout race on september 27th 2008. We need all mods to attend and race! I know some of you already plan to attend but we need more modular powered cars. Lets get out some of our fast cars and show the pushrod guys whats up. I know Jarrod and myself are attending so if you have any questions please contact either of us for information.

Would love to see a good showing from the club at this one. Even if you don't plan to race show up to watch and wear your club digs!

So who is going to this? who is watching and who is running?! I absolutly can't make it, but would love to see the BMMC'ers out in force!

I think the cost is $20 just like a regular track day. I will deffintely be racing!!!! WAAAHOOOO

Kevin this might be an opportunity to see some of these supercharged cars up close and talk to the guys running them daily....just a thought

I don't know the format yet. The OKDHM site hasn't posted any rules or format for the races. I assume they will do some time trials and then bracket style. It's the only way to be fair I would think. But who knows they might do heads up which seems silly to me.

My car can't brake 14 becuase of the lack of traction and my MPH varies from 100 - 104 mph. it to embarrising to run it. No webos. at least she looks pretty.

talked to someone today, they said that they think its going to be heads up. but im not sure. i think they will do a "pinks" style maybe., heads up time trials, then line up the cars that have the closest times, and then do bracket style. but i do know that Greg will be out there racing.

Denise at TRP said she thought it would be heads up racing but wasnt for sure........and you would be correct Andrew I will be racing my 14 second ride

I too will be racing my 15 second ride if they are doing heads up. Sandbag? What sandbag?

The cars all ready. Changed out my trans fluid today with some royal purple syncromax. Cleaned my air filter. Put on short belt. Mounted tires. Ready to roll.

Well, I had a good time today guys. The field was a bit lopsided as running heads up and pulling cars from the best qualifying times from each respective class put things at quite an advantage for the pushrod guys. There just werent enough real fast modular cars to even the field. I qualified in the #6 position on the Modular side and ended up running Chris from K&M muffler in BA. who qualified #6 in the pushrod side with his blown 87 GT running 11.8's. I ended up with the win with a 12.80 @ 107 for the modular side after Chris missed a grear and had computer gremlins after the recovery. But thats heads up for ya. You just never know what will happen.

If this event takes place again I believe it would be much more fun if it were run in a bracket style configuration to even the field. Plus you would have gotten more than one round of eliminations which makes for more fun!

All in all I think it was a good time. Personally not my best times but for the temperatures today, all in all it wasn't bad. Here are my times for the day.

run #1. 12.75 @ 107 Cool morning air
run #2. 12.82 @ 107 Starting to warm up
run #3. 12.94 @ 107 Getting warmer, Heat soak setting in. Qualifying round #1
run #4. 12.99 @ 107 Hot lap not much cool down. Qualifying round #2
run #5. 12.80 @ 107 WIN for the modular side! Woo Hoo.

Not too shabby for a presumed slow S197 car with mild bolt ons N/A. Perhaps some respect was gained by the performance?

Congrats to the Jerbear as well for taking the in on a Bye run! Only two winners in the modular side were BMMC members!

I will post all my times here in a bit, but the best one of the day was the last one. 12.42 @ 113. Overall it was a good day for me. Unfortunately it was not good enough to beat the 11.50 car that I was paired up against. next year no heads up racing.
