So I'm flipping around the channels tonight and come across the classic "Airport 1975". It pretty entertaining from an historic perspective...

Things I've notice about flying back then vs. now.

  • Everyone is allowed in the cockpit! Everyone!
  • There's more sexual harassment between the stewardess (correct term in the 70's) and pilots to make Quagmire from the Family Guy blush.
  • Everyone is drinking alcohol of some sort.
  • Flying is really a big deal! People are dressed up and are really looking forward to it. Nobody is wear sweats or is wearing jeans showing their buttcrack.
  • The seats are big! The Coach seats look bigger than today's First Class seats.
  • Back in the 70's, 50% of the women didn't wear bras. About 50% of those women really should have.
  • People are smoking! On the plane!
  • The collars on the men's shirts are really W I D E.
  • Nobody is trying to make that last min call of their cell phone before takeoff.
  • The stewardess' (correct term for the 70's) actually smile. I knew they could!
My how times have changed....

I am flying to Munich in just under 2 weeks and its really sad I am having to go though the massive checklist of things to take, thanks to do and I have get the cell company to switch me over to international roaming and the works just to be able to function in Germany.. You dont just hop on a plane and go somewhere any longer.

Yes, in the case at denver there is items you cannot take on board. One of the items in the case is a Chain saw. WTF The only thing I can say is that the only reason it is there is because someone actually tried to bring it on board.

Brent, leave the leaf blower at home.

Yea my bosses go often enough to Munich they have it down to a science.. I will have my basic survival items in a carry on and everything else is being checked as well as teh golf clubs since there is a nice looking coarse just a few miles down the road from the hotel. Also since ladies are allowed to take a purse on as well as their carry on bag it is also ok for men to have two carry on bags so I can take a small bag with a change of clothes and stuff (in case they lose my luggage) and I can take the laptop bag on as well.
