Gears for the Stang
I looked through all the topics in the tech section but didn't see one about gears. After riding in Jarrod's car the last tech day, I decided I needed some gears. It was so much faster than mine! I know he has done more mods than me and looks better blah blah blah I could go on and on, but anyways, brenspeed has the 4.10 Ford 8.8 Performance Series Motive Gear for $158 and the 4.10 Ford 8.8 Motive Gear for $138. I want the 4.10s because as Jarrod was showing me, the RPM range of the 4.10s at cruise on the highway is not bad at all. So to the questions:
1. What is the diffence between the two gears listed?
2. Is it worth the extra 20 bucks?
3. Has anyone installed them themselves?
4. Has anyone heard about the gears being noisy after install? If these are it, then thats really gay.
5. Did I overlook the threads and not see the gears section?
Any input would be awesome! Thanks

Re: Gears for the Stang
One of them is going to be a better metal to be able to take more abuse and the other is going to be a bit softer for more of your every day person. Most gear companies offer several choices in the same gear ratio to cover those with very Serious cars that are track only and then they will offer a street gear for your every day car that sees some track duty. I say go with the lower priced gear. Remember, even guys with 1000hp have to have gears.

Re: Gears for the Stang
THe Motive brand have been reported to whine a bit....Could be the install but I wouldn't chance it. Get the Ford Racing ones....They aren't that much more. You can't do it yourself if you don't know how to set up backlash and have all the necessary tools for the job...which no one on here does......BUT, call Bob Hurley Ford and ask for Benji in the service department......tell him you are with the mustang club and need him to do a rear end gear swap for you.....give him the gear kit, the install kit, the oil, your car, and $200 and presto chango you have a fast car....Oh and don't forget to have Brenspeed unlock your tunes so you can change the rear axle ratio (should already be able to)....Anything else?

Re: Gears for the Stang
I would go with Ford Gears I have used the motive, Ford gears are the easiest to set up the trick to gear swaps is the correct pinion depth, backlash is easy. I have used motive with no noise but...I did have a set of 3.90 brake a tooth so from now on I wont use motive ford all the way. The noise that people get out of the gears is wrong set-up usually pinion depth. I have the tools I can loan them to you but you need to read up on it and if you have never done them it would be better to take it in.

Re: Gears for the Stang
Nice. Yeah I have been reading on it. I think for sure I am taking this one to Benji. I am also going with the Ford 4:10 gears. Hopefully I will get them in the next two weeks. Thanks guys for the input and the extensive knowledge that I would like to call "The BMMC Brain Bank".....

Haha he said "BMMC Brain Bank"
I like to think that we've screwed up enough to know what to NOT do...not that we are smart...but rather educated through "hard knocks". So call it "Bmmc Hard Knocks".
You will enjoy the gears!

Re: Gears for the Stang
I would not trust them. David and Jarrods shifters come loose and jarrod keeps breaking stuff like alternaters and battery terminals. But if you want to trust them be my guest.
