Octane Booster...I'm an idiot
Decided to buy some octane booster...for the first time. Opened gas tank, shoved it in.
Anyone know where this is going? lol.
The correct answer is "all over the floor".
Solution...some sort of wide funnel? Oh wait...I think there is something in my trunk.

Yea, gotta get something in there to keep the hole open, otherwise it all pours out.
Although, you would get the same end result whether it went in your tank or on the floor.
That stuff is junk, I wouldn't waste my time or money on it. If you want race gas, buy race gas...

I have some MACH Series Accelerator made by torco that some were saying is pretty good. I can mixed with 5 gallons of 93 octane produces 102 race fuel. Not sure how good it works but Jarrod says it's an ok product.

Re: Octane Booster...I'm an idiot
Ryan its a good thing the Octane booster didnt go in your tank NOT RECOMMENDED for our cars. Off the shelf octane booster will foul your plugs quick. Also it really does not add any value to a stock tuned car. 91 octane (non ethenol) is sufficient
If your trying to run the edge of detonation with an aftermarket tune and want a safety factory, then Torco is recommended, BUT know that it will kill your Catalytic converters quick, so be careful.
Also if you look in your trunk you will find a funnel thats used for your capless gas tank. DOH!

Torco works fine, BUT like stated above could possibly destroy your catalytic converters down the road. Most go with an aftermarket Off-Road H or X pipe if you are going to consistantly use it.
I would also recommend changing your plugs more often anyway if your going to use any type of octane booster as it can leave a residue on the plugs....and eventually your O2s might have some trouble I hear due to coating of things like Torco.
The best alternative is to fill part way up with 91 and mix in a higher octane fuel. I think a few of our members know where to get it here in tulsa, but not sure about your area
Is there a reason your using octane booster? Just curious

Re: Octane Booster...I'm an idiot
I was just curious if I would be able to feel any difference, that's why I was gonna try it.
It's about time to change my oil...just passed 2000 miles. Are you guys using stock ford filters? Thinking I might try some redline 5-50.
As a side note, I"m getting a tornado shelter installed in my garage. A nice side benefit...I'll have a pit and can now get under my car easily :-)

Gotcha. Octane booster does not add power, just keeps detonation (engine knock) from happening. More of a safety additive.
Nice sell on the wife!! I need storm shelter now!
I use the stock ford filter for my oil change.

Re: Octane Booster...I'm an idiot
So are you saying octane booster does not accomplish the same thing as going from 91 to 93 octane pump gas? If it doesn't then it's false advertising.

Off the shelf octane booster is not concentrated enough to go from 91 to 92 even. Try .1 or .2 of a difference after adding. Torco is very concentrated stuff and can occomplish boosting your octane substantially. Here is the Torco Blending chart.
But again, raising your octane does nothing for you on a stock tune (the car just doesnt need it as there should be no detonation and the knock sensors are active to prevent it). Once you talk to Lund or another tuner he can make you a 91 octane, 93 octane, 101 octane tunes....whatever you want. What hes doing in those tunes is raising total spark advance (Timing) and leaning out your fuel mixture (along with various settings within your computer) which add HP....but also can cause detonation if you dont have enough octane. Torco will raise your octane to prevent detonation and keep your motor from throwing a rod through the block.

Re: Octane Booster...I'm an idiot
Oh and for the filter. I just did my oil the other day. Ford oil, mobile one filter. Ive always run them on my mustangs. Normallg with mobile one oil but not the case now. On a side note 5k miles and that oil was just about as clean as the new stuff going in.
I bought my oil online 7now bucks and change a qt.

Re: Octane Booster...I'm an idiot
Just ordered 2 AMSOIL filters, the high mileage ones, and 7 quarts of REDLINE. Reading their website, they say heavy city driving 7500 miles, but highway 13-15k.
Also got some hood struts (redline)...looking forward to getting rid of that stupid prop rod!
