Supercharger Shootout--03 Cobra, 05 GT, GT500

This is an older MM&FF article that pitted the Terminator, Condor, and GT together....they threw 20PSI at all three to see what the results would be.

The Results:

The GT500

With 20 psi registered on the boost gauge, the 5.4L GT500 belted out 756 hp at 6,200 rpm and 684 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm.



The Cobra

With 20 psi registered on the boost gauge, the 4.6L Four-Valve motor produced 702 hp at 6,700 rpm and 578 lb-ft at 4,900 rpm.



The 05 GT

With 20 psi registered on the boost gauge, the 4.6L Three-Valve motor produced 704 hp at 6,500 rpm and 607 lb-ft at 4700 rpm. The higher compression and variable cam timing more than made up for the missing valve.

To me the Termi or the 3 valver won. Given the Cubes disadvantage and the boat anchor weight of the iron block 5.4. However the 5.4 wins in the TQ numbers. And it will need the extra to move that block.

Still impressive numbers.

Here's how it breaks down:
GT500: 140 Hp per liter
Termi: 152 Hp per liter
3 Valver: 153 Hp per liter

You also have to look at power under the curve...peak HP is nice, but I like power throughout the RPM band. I would like to see dyno sheets, but I suspect the 5.4 would lead the pack due to the cubes
