Oil Spill rant! Empty Oil Spill rant!

Post by BMMC1 5/23/2010, 8:05 pm

Love it... the Democrats claim to be the environmental
party... yet the Obama administration has done nothing to stem the tide of oil destroying
the gulf. He's counted on BP to do it. Really? With all
that is at stake... and after all their failures... Really?
And yet they bash the republicans for slow response for Katrina. Really?
With estimates (depending who you talk to) of anywhere between 5000-26000
barrels spilling into the gulf each day, wouldn’t you ramp up the efforts and
bring every resource you can into play?!
Really?

It's been over a month and nothing but senate
hearings, which accomplished nothing but the typical legal “I didn’t do
it!” finger pointing. Yet the local
fisherman have been wanting to deploy oil booms and can't even get the EPA permits
to do so…. Really? It’s WAY PAST TIME to get other resources
thrown at this. Way F’n past time!

Signed Paul Haines… A republican and diver who cares very much about
our oceans ! Yes republicans care about the environment…

Oil Spill rant! Empty Re: Oil Spill rant!

Post by Metric7 5/23/2010, 9:14 pm

All finger pointing and legal posturing aside, and not to mention the wildlife and sea creatures that will most certainly be killed as a result of this tragedy, I feel absolutely terrible for the men and women of our Gulf Coast area who make their living from or live adjacent to those waters - they will be negatively impacted for many years to come. I'm employed in the oil and gas industry; no one in the industry (including BP) ever wants to see incidents like this happen. The fact is that America runs on oil and natural gas and we must continue drilling for it until we come up with a better fuel to sufficiently meet the daily energy needs of our country. This drilling is done by humans with machines made by humans, so neither the process, techniques, nor equipment used to extract the oil and gas we need is perfect and all will fail on occasion. I used to work on a drilling rig; I know that when the equipment fails it fails spectacularly - as we've unfortunately seen with the Gulf tragedy. Hopefully BP will get this well plugged soon so they can go about the long, tedious (and very costly) business of cleaning up the oil on our shores.

This is a segment that we like to call: Really?! Really?! (Paul). It is very sad to see this, espically for our kids.

Really?! :)

David fully understand... Yes, let us not forget the people that died on the rig itself.

My whole point is that BP has tried and failed (over and over)... while the US government stands by. Worry about the blame and cost later. Let's get the leaked stopped. The cost will still be cheaper than the bailout (read- Handout) of just one of the banks or car companies we bailed out.

Seems we're putting our hands (or oceans and coasts) in the hands of one resource. The Navy has a great set of engineers and deep submersibles. Send the Calvary Obama! You FN dumbass!

I absolutely agree - let's get the flowing oil stopped now, by whatever means or at whatever cost. Good point about getting the military involved - perhaps even denotating a small bomb over the leak site would cause the ocean floor to collapse in on itself, thereby plugging the leak. In the meantime, we're relying on Kevin Costner to paddle around the Gulf skimming oil off the surface. Next we'll see Alec Baldwin in a floaty ring sucking up the oil with a straw.

Hollywood actors know it all! ;)

Also... is it me or could they use a "jaws of life" type device to pinch the pipe shut? Kinda like a garden hose...

They're trying to stuff golf balls a dirt into it... ever try that with a garden hose? Doesn't work so good. But pinching it does!

Pour a quart of motor oil into a 5gallon bucket of water and let me know how easy it is to get all of the oil out. Report back once your done. I expect an update in about 3 months. :-)

I am baffled that anyone would want to governemnt to try and stop the leak. The oil business is very complicated and deepwater operations are the most complicated of a complicated business. What you aren't seeing on the news is that the other majors (Chevron and Exxon in particular) are helping with this effort. There are some great minds working on solving this problem. This is worse than a worse case scenario. This falls into a category of "this could never happen". And yet it did.

apparently Kevin Costner and his brother have patented a method to clean this up. the government says they are looking for the "right place" in the gulf to test this out before they go full blown. really?! they need a "right place" to test it? how about anywhere???

Exactly my point - all this technology for drilling for oil underneath a mile of water was designed, built, and operated by humans; just a matter of time before something failed catastrophically. Remember Apollo 13? Or Challenger? Humans are capable of some wonderful and amazing accomplishments, but we're not perfect - shame on BP for not having better contingency plans in place; and one could also fault the government regulatory agencies for not conducting independent and thorough reviews of the majors' plans in case of a blowout/leak at sea. Again, though, finger-pointing does no good at this time - someone just needs to get the leak stopped and clean up the mess.

I to worked in the oil field ,this job is not for the goverment or the military . BP ,Exxon and chevron are best suitied for this.I would have thought they would have done this mud thing first.I'm glad no more people were killed. The 29 in the coal mine was bad enough.

yea, why hasnt the Obama administration stepped in and regulated this thing or even taken control of it. remember how they bashed Bush for not stepping in immediately after Katrina? yet those same Gulf Coast liberals turn a blind eye on this occasion. Katrina couldnt be prevented and Bush got blamed for it, yet many people are and will be affected by this catastrophy that couldve been prevented from getting as bad as it has. wheres the Obama administration?? where is mayor Nagan bitching on national tv about this administration and its slow response? where is the EPA, NAACP and ACLU? hypocracy at its best, blantant and obvious.

Exactly... I'd really like to keep politics out of this and concentrate on the problem at hand. I'll just say that if there was a republican in the office, 3.5 minutes after it started spewing oil you'd be hearing the liberal media bitching about the lack of response.

I get that they have the oil company experts working on. I get it... I also get there is no easy solution. It in very deep water... which poses a whole new set of challenges. I get it. I'm drinking the kool-aid guys. However, are they too arrogant to get other opinions?

Getting the government involved in the true sense of BS redtape is a mistake. Period. However, the Navy has some great resources. Plus, getting the gov't ok for the fisherman to deploy booms has nothing to do with the oil companies. BTW - They're still waiting for the approval.

Tic Toc...
