07-09 GT500 or '11 5.0 GT?
I'm having a hard time deciding on getting a new 5.0 or pulling the trigger on a 07-09 GT500. I'm figuring both can be had for +- 2000 of one another so what do you guys think? Which do you consider to be the better choice and why? I'm leaning toward the new GT just because it's new and different, but I have this nagging voice in my head that's saying get the GT500. It will not be my daily driver so that's not a factor for me. Thoughts?

Dude, my brother and I are contemplating the exact same question. We both decided that it may be better to go with the 5.4
1. It is already FI and small inexpensive parts can really boost the hp.
2. The displacement is 5.4
3. The motor has been tried and tested through and through with hardly any faults.
4. There is a big aftermarket parts support that have been researched and developed.
5. With the new power plant in the 5.0 there may be some bugs, although it is also forged and can be boosted with I am sure high HP gains.
Just a cent of my two cents

Ultimately the are both sweet rides. I would ask this. What are your ultimate goals for the car? Is it going to be a daily driver or a garage queen. If it will be something that you can park and set aside for sunny days, I would look at the GT500. A GT will neve hold the value, the production numbers will not allow that to happen, not matter how unique it might be.
If you look at the to side by side as far as numbers go this is how I see it. They both have great motors, both have forged internals, and both have the potential for a shit ton of power. A GT500 with a few bolt ons is very much a handful. To get a new GT to that level will take some boost of which will be costly and not readily available until the tuners get their hands on the cars. If your willing to be patient, I would wait for the new GT500 to come out and make your decision. Once those are released it will add another model year to the stable and lower the price again of the 07-09 gt500's to an even more affordable range.

Good points. After more consideration I am beginning to feel like the GT500 is a wiser investment. It will be a garage queen. I may see if the one I was looking at buying is still up for grabs. If so I may go that route.

ugh this is a no brainer, buy a gt500 slap a blower on it and you have 650rwhp pretty easy, gonna take alot more to make a 5.0 do that. Only downside is weight, just need more power to overcome that! :)

So it would seem the verdict is GT500.

Re: 07-09 GT500 or '11 5.0 GT?
Im looking at the dollar for dollar investment into the new ride. Right now after considering the pros and cons I think I have concluded that my money would be better invested into the Shelby. The GT with the 5.0 while it is new and nice will be a dime a dozen. The GT will not retain as much value later down the road no matter how nice I keep it. I guess I'll have to wait and see how the pricing ends up on the new GT, but I'm guessing that its going to be right at around 32000 with the trac pack option. This puts it too close to a GT500. If I'm wrong and say it comes in at closer to 28K I might rethink. Because at that point I could justify a blower and be around the GT500 price. Bottom line is I don't want to spend 32K on a car and have to throw an additional 10K at it to make it perform where I want. I can get into a GT500 and with a pulley, CAI, and Tune get very respectable numbers from it. With a couple suspension mods and a few tweaks here and there I can have a car that I will be happy with. Just my .02

I'll wait for the 2011-12 GT500... I'll wait for less weight.

Yeah, I'm waiting on the 2012 GT so they can get all the kinks out of the new 5.0L engine and to see what new SE models they might introduce. Of course, if the price of the new SEs approaches that of a new '12 GT500 I might be persuaded to go that route.

Yea, but the price won't be the same, I would wait till they come out though cause alot of 07-08-09 gt500 owners will be selling theirs to get the 2011 due to the block change. Then you could pick up a used one at a good price.

Yea but... right now the Z06 is the better bang for the buck. You get almost Ford GT performance for about the same price.

I'm thinking along the lines of David L. here with the current GT500 owners trading up for the new motor cars. Im still thinking that you can get one for less than 35K even in the current market. You just have to look around and be patient.

Never been a Cheby/GM fan at all... but sorry. I'd take a Z06. I give credit where credit is due and that's a lot of car for the $$$.

To you GT500 guys. What are some of the things that you would change about your cars or have changed for the better? I'm trying to make a very good informed decision on getting a Shelby. I'd like to hear from you what are the best changes to make for improvement
