Throttle position sensor Empty Throttle position sensor

Post by DEEZ-67 6/23/2009, 11:29 am

is there an "how to change" thread or is there any tricks that one of you might know befor I go and replace this thing.

My poor girl keeps going into that safe mode and is throwing the codes (P2106, P2135) which from what I have read is the Throttle/Pedal position sensor/switch.

any help would be great guys. Thanks for your time

Stole this info from another forum. Hope it helps. TPS is easy to replace....2 torx bits

Here is a similar thread mentioning TPS issues/replacement along with link to order the part. This thread also suggests cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensor perhaps before replacing TPS.
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...ml#post1037535

What does the throttle body look like? This link has pictures of a removed throttle body and what to do if you lose the spring.

This is a video of throttle body replacement (I like to watch someone else do what I have not done before): http://www.americanmuscle.com/thrott...o-install.html

Here is a link to a pdf of throttle body replacement (from same website)(the pdf has important warnings not included in the video) http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/musta...bbkins1763.pdf

This is a link to the TSBs mentioned earlier (I get lazy...This is already a sticky)

Here is a link to various parts of a 2005 Ford Service Manual (Pictures of your vehicle... if you are new to this like me)

TSB 05-14-4

07/25/05

WRENCH LIGHT ON WITH BOTH DTC P2106 AND
P2135 - VEHICLES BUILT 11/29/2004 AND PRIOR

FORD:
2003-2005 Thunderbird
2005 Crown Victoria, Mustang
2004-2005 Explorer, F-150
2005 E-Series, Expedition, F-Super Duty

LINCOLN:
2003-2005 LS
2005 Town Car, Navigator

MERCURY:
2005 Grand Marquis
2004-2005 Mountaineer

This article supersedes TSB 05-09-15 to update the Issue and Dealer Coding.

ISSUE
Some vehicles built 11/29/2004 and prior may exhibit the wrench light on with both P2106 and P2135 diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

ACTION
Replace the throttle position sensor (TPS) following the instruction sheet included in the TPS service kit. Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using WDS release B36.11 and higher, or B37.2 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the B37 CD. Calibration files are also available at the website.

CAUTION FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE TPS REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURE WILL RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE TPS SCREWS.

Yeah, I had the same problem with my '05, Dave. Got the TPS at Bill Knight Ford South and replaced it myself. It's a very straightforward R&R but those screws holding it in are TIGHT, let me tell you! I stripped the head out of one of them just trying to remove it - wound up having to break the old TPS off the mount in order to get a Vice-grip on it and remove it. That solved my trouble codes and I've had no further problems with mine since I replaced the TPS.

Au contrare', mon petit JRod - now that the Mineral Grey has an even higher new-part count, I believe the price should stay at our previously-agreed upon $30K. I'm still awaiting cash payment from you.

my part came in this morning from Ford (Throttle/pedal position sencor/switch) went out put it on started the car and the wrench light went off. I'm going to go run it around the block but it seems to have fixed the problem. I have also replaced the air filter and removed and cleaned the MAF. Here are a few pics of the old one. it looks a little dirty.

Thanks for your input guys.
