I Survived the Layoffs.. But..
Well we layed off somewhere around 80 people or so from what we can tell. We axed two from my department so now myself and the other administrator are going to have to double our work load and we are both salary so thats gonna suck a bit. I am going to start looking for another job. I am not going to stick around and get the crap kicked out of me every day. So if anyone needs a Systems Administrator let me know.. I need to bail out of the ship while I can still see the shore.. lol.. They didnt do my department with what was best in the department in mind. They did it more in the save the bosses ass way and it was really stupid.. Granted I still have a job and I like that idea but I am really not happy with picking up all the extra work for no pay, no raises this year and nothing going to anyones 401K's from the company this year..

I am glad I survived but I feel like the survivor of a nuclear blast. Yes I am alive but the fallout is gonna kill me in no time.. lol.. The worst part is one of the Level 1 techs they sent was the senior member of our department and was the heart and soul of the group. He worked his ass off and knew more about our software packages and systems than the rest of us but he didnt get along with the boss too well so he is gone..

Glad to hear you made it. Sucks to be in that situation. For now I guess you can be thankful you have a job. Do you think that this may be a start to somthing worse?

Glad to hear you still have a job. Some days, I feel I'm in the same boat, but with the nature of the economy I am happy with what I have.

Something worse for me Yes but for the company probably not. We still have the support of Linde in Munich which employs about 50,000 people worldwide but the scope of our company has changed some and with the economy a lot of our larger jobs have been put on hold waiting on funding when the market picks back up. When that happens I think we are screwed because we got rid of a lot of good people and dont get me started on all the work I am going to have to do. My boss is talking like we are going to putting in 60 hour weeks for a few months.. If I were hourly that would still suck but at least my pay check would be nice.. as it is I get paid just the same for doing a crap load more work and I get nothing out of it but having a job.. Sucks for me and worse for those let go..

they prob had to make a few cuts. but letting the best guy in your group go bcuz the boss didnt like him is dumb buss mistake and might come back to bite him.personal feelings have no place in bussiness decisions. I wish you the best.maybe they will fire your boss and give you his job.
