Post by Oldokie 3/8/2009, 10:43 am

Spoke with Scott at Hallett yesterday and he has 3 schools starting up. First ones are March 19, 20 (Thursday Friday) and the next one 24 April (Friday). Seems there are no schools on the weekends due to track availability. I am going to sign up for the one on Friday March 20. Anyone is welcome to join me.

David: When's a good time to get my brake fluid changed and what brand is best?

Where's the nest place to get a SA 2005 helmet?

I know these questions have been answered before, but I have not found them (yet).

Basically you will need a dot 4 brake fluid since it has a high boiling point. In my searching alot recommend this one:

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/ate/ate_superblue_fluid.jsp

You willl probably need 2 cans of that just to be sure we get it all out. We have a dot 4 at work, but its much more expensive and I liike the fact that it is blue that way I can tell when it has got all the old fluid out. Get some ordered and I can take care of that for you.

Dang blair, just sold the helmet you needed for 100 bucks, new in the box .I posted last week, sold new for 375.Simpson is the one i perfer. If you buy a new one and it feels good when you put it on,it's probable to big.Should be a little snug (it will conform to your face after a few uses.Shake your head left to right and the helmet should not move on your head.A loose fit could brake your neck.

Thanks Tony. I am going to Grand Prix auto parts this afternoon to see what they have in the way of helmets and see if I can pick up some dot 4 brake fluid.

Hallett, here I come! Wo-hooo!

I have heard that performance parts is no longer in business. Everytime I drive by I cannot tell if they are open or not. You might try Grand Prix, down on admiral for the Brake Fluid. As for the helmet, not sure where else to get one of those here locally.

Screw the pedal person help, I have a pressure bleeder here at work, hook it up to master cylinder and open the bleeders, much easier.

Well, got my SA2005 helmet yesterday (ouch ouch ouch!!!). Scott at the Hallett racing school said he recommends Motul 600.

http://www.raceshopper.com/motul_brake_fluid.shtml

Grand Prix had nothing like that. I really don't have time to mess with ordering or searching for this stuff, so David, do you have something comparable to put in my car this Friday? I'll do the Motul when I have the time.

Blair,

The Hi-Perf Motocraft fluid will be just fine for you for this year good

I stil am very hopeful of being there on Saturday (3/21) but my business is already reaping the benefits of our newly nationalized Marxist society blowup When "He" said "spread the wealth around" you thought he meant the very wealthy......."He" won't need to raise taxes on those of us under the $250k mark; because when everyone in "that" tax bracket stops spending money, we're the ones that go broke beatingdead

It is money well spent. It is better to get instruction on day one rather than develope bad habits that have to be un-learned! And take advantage of the instructor ride-alongs on Saturday too! If I'm there (God willing) you can catch a ride with me. It helps to listen to someone else talk through a session when you are not overwhelmed with "staying on the black stuff".

Go into it with the mindset that you know absolutely nothing about driving a car. Because it's a totally different ballgame.

I've been told that women are actually faster and better learners simply because they are willing to LISTEN to the instructor and actually DO what the instructor says! flame

If you have a laptop with broadband internet access (like Sprint or T-Mobile) bring it with you. We can look at some websites for suspension parts and then you'll have it in your web browser history.

Blair,

Hope you had fun today! But if it was anything like my first day out with the Shelby, I was asking myself IF I ever wanted to go back out again. I was stressed out, emotionally exhausted, and at times, just plain scared of wrecking.

A few suspension parts and a month to rest and I started to have more fun the next time out. Now it's like riding a bike.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I did NOT get my entry form in for tomorrow's HST in time. They were completely full. I even tried groveling, but to no avail. I waited till now even hoping to get in on a cancellation. But nada................

I'm really bummed.

Been trying to decide if a trip up to TRP tomorrow would be worth my while......dunno.

Post by Oldokie 3/21/2009, 10:22 am

I'm still sore this morning. Balls to the wall all day long! What a blast! Only a few cars on the track and often had it all to myself! It was a test to see who had more balls, the car or me. Unfortunately twice I had more balls than the car. Never left the track, but I was all over it twice!

The afternoon was a lot more fun as I learned the track and knew what was coming and could really push the car. The torque of the car let me drive the car in 3rd all the way except for turn #2 to start out. After that it was 2nd and third around the track. The rpm alarm would just start going off in 3rd on the long straight when it was time to brake for the 90 deg turn.

There was a guy there taking movies and still shots all day long. I sure hope he missed me going through turn #6 sideways! I'll post some of the movies when they mail me the DVD.

I was actually surprised that the car did as well as it did in the stock configuration. Of course the HP was a big whoopie! If you haven't done this, you need to give it a try. Me, I am going to surf the net and look for a good driving suit!
