Found the Bronco II Empty Found the Bronco II

Post by Guest 2/4/2009, 10:09 pm

Ok.. Found a 87 or 88 Eddie Bauer 4x4 that needs an engine and the same guy has a 2WD that is wrecked in the front but with a good engine. I am going to get them both for $500. I am going to bring the 2WD one home first and get the engine, tranny and anything else useful out of it. After I strip it I am going to haul that one off to scrap and then bring the 4x4 home and get the engine and tranny into it.

Here are some pictures of one exactly like it but obviously not mine. The one I am getting has all of the front sheetmetal taken off of it since the previous owner was going to try and put the front part of the frame and other nose parts over to the wrecked 2WD. I dont plan on going that route. I am going to plut the Eddie back together instead. I think it will be easier to just swap engines.

Why? BroncoII's are cool.. Next best thing to a Jeep and you can lock the doors and have good heat..

I love Bii's. I had an '85 that my husband repainted for me and then we sold it. Have an '86 that I am waiting for room in the shop to bring it home and get it fixed up.

Time and space might be an issue for you but if at all possible when doing swaps like this keep both vehicles on hand until you are 100% done. We've learned from experience when you haul off the "donor" vehicle to soon it comes back to bite you.

Good luck!

We have to ditch the first one before the second comes home. Our home owners association would flip a lid if one of these set in the driveway looking like they do right now.. I might still leave the 2WD here for a week or so..

This was my point... ;) One at a time you should be able to hide in you garage.

Wouldn't it be better 9 and cheaper in the long run) to find one the is already put together? Seems like a lot of work you're getting ready to do. Unless you want to do it that is.

Nope.. Would not be cheaper in the long run by any means. This way I will have one that is runnind and driving and ready for fun for under a grand. The next best deal I can find is double that for one that is not running and still needs to be repaired. I am financing this operation by selling computer stuff and car parts that I dont need. This shouldnt take any money out of my regular bank account. I wouldnt be able to do that if I bought one that was already running and ready to go.

Nope.. Its going to have a winch on the front at some point. And tow hooks front and rear. She can pull herself out of the mud then.. Might do a 4.0L swap on it at some point as well.

I loved my Bii. It was a lot of fun. Never really tested it to much in the mud but drove the hell out of in the snow/ice. Here's mine after it got some new paint. Sold it about a week later to a kid who totalled it.

Ewwwwww.

I had an Explorer Sport. About as close to a BII as I wanted to get. Whenever Ford puts a II behind a sacred name plate, it's not a good thing. (Think Mustang II)

Found the Bronco II Empty Re: Found the Bronco II

Post by Guest 2/7/2009, 12:40 am

The broncoII was one of the first small SUV's and was in its own right a brilliant vehicle. It is the rival to the Jeep in every way but one and that was its potential for rollover. This was what Ralph Nader used to kill them. I have owned two and can tell you they are not that easy to roll. Trust me I tried.. Now with that said I will say the can and will roll if you push them.. But these problems are easily resolved and were resolved in the explorer however at the cost of weight and wheel base lenghth. The bronco two will drive a circle around a dime and will fit anywhere a jeep will fit. They have a dana front end that was upgraded over the years starting with the 28 and ending with the 35. The rear is a 7.5 but is easily upgraded to the explorer 8.8. Wiht a change to either the explorer axles or with a wheel offset change the roll over potential of this little bronco has been reduced considerably. Believe it or not the jeep owners give the BII complete respect. they know what the broncoII is all about and what it is capable of. It is a realy cool little truck and with just a few minor mods it is a full on off road vehicle. Once I am done I me, a buddy at work with a jeep and one of crystals friends with a jeep are going to head out to inola to go mudding. Anyone else is welcome to join us and see what the little BII can do.
