Jarrod,
The best way to learn really is by just doing it.
Come on out March 21st, pay an extra $30 for an instructor for the day. You'll get a brief classroom session; a pace car follow along to show you the line (get in the front of the line so you can see where the pace car is, instead of what some bowtie drivin' air head might be doing wandering all over the place) This is important because, while going slow, the race line really looks wierd; but going fast it's where you want to be. Then you'll go out with an instructor in the passenger seat. Usually an instructor is available each session of the day if the class isn't too large.
Sometimes the newbies get a ride-along with some of the more experienced drivers before the first session too. I've given some rides before.
There's a lot to learn and you'll be overloaded with input. It takes seat-time.
My list of reminders to myself is always:
1. Look up and look ahead to the next corner, not at the pavement in front of your hood.
2. Be smooth; a single motion on the steering wheel at "turn in", no jerks or double moves.
3. Two hands on the wheel unless shifting (& do that quickly but smoothly).
4. Smooth on the brakes and smooth off the brakes. Don't upset the car.
5. All braking and shifting is done before the steering wheel turns!
Oh yeah almost forgot the most important rule:
6. Put your wallet in a safe deposit box and give the keys to your fiance!

Thanks for the advice Jeff! Still going to look into some suspension mods before shelby......I have the Hawk Performance Pads, lower control arms, Eibach Pro Kit (lowering springs), Lower Control Arm Relocation brackets (bring the geometry of the LCAs back to the correct angle).
Im thinking about the EIbach front and rear sway bars as well as the D Spec adjustable shocks
