BMMC OVERHAULIN
Well as some of you know my son is away at school. For the next five months Andrew will be spending his days at Thunderbird Youth Academy. As most of you know my son and I are pretty close and his absence is pretty hard, so I need somthing to pass the time and keep my mind occupied. I want to do somthing for him as a graduation present and I was thinking what better present than to do a restoration on his car............. Overhaulin style! My goal is to have the car ready for show at the upcoming Shelby meet in June. It just so happens that he will graduate on June 20th from the academy and the Shelby show is to begin on the 24th with the show being on the 27th. I plan to hide the car and make up a story as to where it is until the day of the show when it will be unveiled to him by the club.
What I need from the club and its members is help. Whatever you can help out with let me know. The car is a 1990 LX 5.0 5-speed. The car is pretty straight as it is but needs a little TLC to get it just right. My plan is to do a paint job, and change the interior from the current red to black as the two main areas of attention. I will also be changing and upgrading certian parts such as weather stripping, motor mounts, rear control arms, tires and the like.
If you would like to get involved with this project let me know. Help of any kind will be most appreciated. If you can donate time, parts, or cash let me know. We have five months to get it done. I will be making a hard parts list and budget in the next few days which will outline parts that will be needed and the costs associated with them. If there is any items that you feel like you would like to help out with chime in and let me know.
I look forward to getting started with this project and working with my friends to reach my goal. Lets make this a surprise that will never be forgotten for a friend, and son that deserves it.
Thanks for all your support!
David

Re: BMMC OVERHAULIN
Me and my store would be glad to help lets sit down and put a plan of action together. I can help get parts for cost and if you need to hide the car at the store that would be fine. I have three boys my oldest is 12 and he and I are real tight so I get it. So I am in who else?

Re: BMMC OVERHAULIN
I'm in!! Whatever I can help with and whenever. I've had some good experience gutting interiors and installing Mega Mat lately... This could be a great club project! You need a videographer to document it, too, David.

Re: BMMC OVERHAULIN
Count me in for whatever I can help you with. Will be nice to see a restoration (overhaul) done, because I plan to do a project car with my son when he gets to that age.

Hey! I may be new to the BMMC.... but I have worked on a few fox bodies and I am a mechanic by trade (I'm sure just like some of you)... So, if you need some parts changing... I'll help!

Re: BMMC OVERHAULIN
man that is an awesome idea. to make the best out of it and to possibly be able to get the most help. i would if i were you make a parts list down to even the smallest items that you would normally think "eh that's only 5 bucks i'll just pick it up". it's those things that many people that don't have much money can afford, but will add up in the end.

Re: BMMC OVERHAULIN
Count me in David. And if it will help the 80mm MAF that Andrew was asking about can go in as well. I will have to see what else I have laying around though that I wont need on the 85. Thats the hard part.. I have my own Fox that needs put together.. lol.. I have about every tool you might ever need and I have a toasty heater too..
David, Post some pictures up of the car, outside, inside and all over so maybe it will ring some bells of things some of us may have laying around or that we may see browsing around other sites that we can pick up for a steal. Not sure if you would want to attempt it yourself but my father in law has a body shop out in Inola, he doesnt have a paint booth though but we could probably use some of his stuff if we want to do some of the work ourselvs like the prep before it gets painted. Believe it or not, maaco can do a nice paint job for cheap if you prep the car first and have it ready for them to spray.

Re: BMMC OVERHAULIN
I think David and I could probably tackle the interior, at least as far as electronices go. If you want to do a nice stereo as well, I have an extra subwoofer and amplifier I could part with and Im sure we can find a decent deck and speakers. Would like to do the dynamat or fat mat since we will be stripping it down.
Thoughts??

Yeah, we could definitely do that - especially if you're changing out interior carpet and seats; might as well Mega Mat that bad boy and upgrade the stereo/electronics at the same time.

Moved this to the Saloon so that Andrew wont be able to see this. I also removed him from the Saloon so he no longer has access.

Re: BMMC OVERHAULIN
I am free whenever to meet up to figure this out. My garage is open to any useage needed.. That really goes for anything not just Andrews car. Have a bid heater and lots of lights.. I have air tools, cherry picker, all kinds of tools, I can port his heads (not professionally but I can do a pretty good job on some E7's).
David, does it have mufflers on it? I have an almost new set of flowmaster knockoffs, and an Offroad H is pretty beat up but still very serviceable. Or I have a set of turbo mufflers that are already mounted to flow tubes and ready to bolt to an H pipe but they have turn downs on them. The fake flows are better and are all but new. They sound very good also.

Hmmmm... David. Remember we were talking about the replacement side windows that didn't have the "Mustang" on them... I might have a solution. (Mark Etching Mustang on them)
