Needing help (mini tech day)
I am needing some help to those that have the experience and that can help me this weekend either Saturday 04/28 or Sunday 04/29.
What I have to do this weekend (assuming my stainless brake lines come in by Friday like they are supposed to):
Jack up car
Remove wheels
Unbolt calipers
Remove rotors and pads
Drain brake system
Remove calipers
Remove old brake lines
Install new brake lines
Remove/move brake boost on firewall
Remove valve covers
Cover valve train assembly
I've changed rotors and pads before, but I've never removed/changed brake lines, nor have I bleed my own brake system. Also I've never removed/moved the brake boost from the firewall to remove the valve covers.
I'll have a total of two jacks and 6 jackstands to keep the car (and corners) up while I'm waiting on the valve covers to be powdercoated.
Upon receiving valve covers back from powdercoating:
Reinstall valve covers
Reinstall brake booster to firewall
Reinstall rotors and pads
Reinstall calipers
Fill/bleed brake system
Reinstall wheels
Questions/parts I still need to get:
1. Do I need new gaskets for the valve covers?
2. I am going to get DOT 4 Motul RBF-600 brake fluid. How much do I need to refill the whole system?
3. Is there anything else I need? I've got 4 speed bleeders and new pads in my living room waiting to go on....
So can anyone help me? Fluffer will be out of town this weekend. Jack will be here to help turn wrenches. Paul was a 50/50, probably no-go, since I haven't heard back from him yet. So I need someone else that can help me/give me proper direction on what to do. Meal(s) and drinks will be provided. Also, does anyone have a torque wrench for when I need to reinstall my wheels back on (and torquing specs)?
Thanks

Re: Needing help (mini tech day)
1. Do you have an air compressor for air tools?
2. Do you have a real brake bleeder that can pull a vacuum or are you using a little hand pump with a tube?
3. The Booster absolutely has to come off to remove the valve cover? Don't have a Termi and just curious, thought there was room...
4. Absolutely need new gaskets for the valve covers in my opinion....
5. What time you starting?

Re: Needing help (mini tech day)
nah, I'm good lol. Your "Suppose" to on a Mark VIII as well, but I'm able to sneak them out with having to and suffering no damage. Re-installation isn't easy, with the new gasket but I've done enough now.
Never pulled a booster on a Termi so you may want somebody there that has.... or I have alldata and we could prolly looks at some directions?

Re: Needing help (mini tech day)
see my replies. thanks. sorry, doing this on my phone at work
[list][*]Mark8Murder wrote:1. Do you have an air compressor for air tools?
yes, i have a 1/2" impact (going to get impact socket sets this friday) and a 3/8" ratchet (i've got a full standard socket set for this)
2. Do you have a real brake bleeder that can pull a vacuum or are you using a little hand pump with a tube?
no, i have neither. i was hoping someone could direct me what to get, or hoping someone already had a good vacuum pump system
3. The Booster absolutely has to come off to remove the valve cover? Don't have a Termi and just curious, thought there was room...
yes, like jerry said, the booster has to be unbolted from the firewall to get the valve covers off. i'd imagine, with the system drained there will be less fear of messing something up. should be a simple unbolt procedure somewhere. problem is i think it's going to be tucked up underneath the gauge cluster
4. Absolutely need new gaskets for the valve covers in my opinion....
awesome. my options = ? (buy from a local shop like autozone or buy from place like lethal?)
5. What time you starting?
whenever. i'voe got all weekend open for this. i'm at the mercy of whoever can comeover and help

On my 3/8" socket set, by standard, i meant it is a non imp/act set. i have both standard and metric short and thin walls, 3 diff size extensions, a u-joint, etc...

Re: Needing help (mini tech day)
What part of town are you in? I'm free either Saturday after 5pm or Sunday after 4pm....
I get my valve cover gaskets from the dealer or Ford Racing, i hate almost any gasket that come from autozone/orielly's....
Steve's wholesale has a super awesome bleeder that hooks to your compressor, it's a vacula (sp?) made by mystic i believe... Mine's loaned out or I'd bring it over.

I'm down the road from Blair by 81st and Harvard.
So are you offering help? How about we start Sat night to leave Sun open if we have to finish.
How much does the bleed system run?

Re: Needing help (mini tech day)
Make sure they don't powdercoat inside the valvecover and check every hole for sand and unbaked powder.

True that. Be replacing some bearings real quick...
Re: Needing help (mini tech day)
Well, day 1 of tear down in the books. Nolan and Jack, thanks for coming over and helping. I wouldn't be able to do this without the extra set of hands and brains helping me turn wrenches and what not.
All I gotta say is this is a PITA. Dam. I better not have to remove the valve covers again for a cosmetic type reason like this...

We'll definitely inspect them closely before re-installation.

Re: Needing help (mini tech day)
Hence don't powder coat the inside. I had (and many others too) mine done at BA powder coating. No problems. They only did the outside only. It was like $50 fir the set. Not bad at all and the job was top notch.
