I saw an article on an 8 second, street driveable, s197. It was a fully built drag car, whats a rough sketch of the price to convert something to an 8 second monster? Just curious.

What you want to go that fast on the street? The radio is still faster than any car. They got me at 125+ mph.

I'd say to go into the 8 second realm you'd be looking at about 1000 HP. So you figure to reach that you'd need a fully built motor with bigger CI, some sort of forced induction (most likely a twin turbo), and all the supporting mods such as suspension, rear end, driveshaft, roll cage, fuel cell, transmission, etc etc etc. Basically a entire car minus the body. So maybe it could be done for $30,000 if you could do all the work and probably closer to $50,000 if you farmed out all the work, oh......and the cost of the car of course. Maybe $6-8K for a straight V6 model from 05-06 that could be gutted.

Cubic money. My quess would be 50,000. Lost of mods required to make that happen plus carnage along the way. On my bucket list.

Hector, streetable just so that you COULD cruise around town in it if you wanted to. I wouldnt ever test an 8 second pass on a non drag strip road lol.

Or after you get it installed they come out with a newer better version and you have to tear something down and do it all over again. Kind of like the best buy commercial.

I for one do not want an 8 second car. Why you ask? Because I dont have the balls, thats the kind of car that can take your life with one mistake. That statement is true for any car at any speed, but moreso when you are trapping those kinds of speeds.

You have to have the utmost respect for that kind of raw power on tap, the instant you lose that respect....it can put you in the hospital.

I will be happy with a high 10 low 11 second ride that is a little more managable on the street, wallet, and life. cheers

I have the balls, but i would need to ask my wife for them back for about 15 seconds. if you do ever get that 8 second car, make sure your parents have a life insurance policy on you. That way they can ease the pain financially when you screw up and wrap it around a pole or tree.............just saying. parents worse nightmare is to have to lay a child to rest.

I wouldnt race it on the street but if I wanted to drive it out for a little Id like the option instead of having a drag car that i can only take in a trailer.

I am not sure of the month but in Mustang 5.0 magazine there was a Shelby GT500 that was built to 1039 HP. If you could find that article it tells you exactly what he had to do to get there. This might give you an idea on the cost.

you'll end up having nearly 100 grand into an s197 that is in the 8 second range and can still be driven. really though an 8 second car that is street legal and one that can in reality be streetable are 2 different things.

the best way to have an 8 second mustang that is comfortable to drive on the street is to have 2 mustangs. i'd bet it would be cheaper also

i vote you do a craigslist special. see how fast you can make it by doing everything used. go with the cheap on3 turbo setup. i bet you could do it for 30-40k that way. biggest cost you'll have for a single item would be the engine. the suspension/chassis as a whole would probably be more, but you don't have to get it all at once. maybe just do an iron block 5.4?

Does on3 make twin turbo? I dunno how reliable a single turbo kit would be at 1000 hp... not the on3 anyway...

eh, maybe not, but for the price of their kits and just upgrade the 3 important parts it's worth a try. you would need a big turbo to even think about attempting it with a single though.

the piping alone is worth it on the on3 kit.

yep, if i get another mustang i'll gladly use the on3 kit for it. you simply can't beat the price. i'd probably just leave it as the base kit unless i found the upgrades on the cheap (cuz i'm a cheap bastard)

yea true. A friend of mine goes real cheap, using the old T3/T4 setups from the 280XZ Turbos. decent little snails. He's used several of the Ford Probe (1989) Turbos too, but the inlet on them was so crazy you couldn't swap it out once the kit was built.

depends on your definition of streetable. could drop in a 557 big block with e series pro heads and make an axle snapping 1k hp and torque, all while being naturally aspirated. lots of ways to do it. and you wouldnt need to spend 100k maybe if you let a shop build it. id say a cool 55k with car included would do it.

just my example, but mine's kinda higher since my car was new w/ every option except the shaker1000. i'm almost to 50k and still expect to spend another 15-20k just to run in the mid 10's.

when you are talking about 8's you won't have anything that's left stock on your car really.

i could build one for 30k it just wouldnt fall into what most people would consider streetable. most people like interiors and a working dash. its alot of preference and theres alot of ways to do it. when my sgt is finished most people wont consider it streetable just because of the cams...though the monoblade throttle body i want to use also wont help at all.

most people dont like cars that are jumpy on the throttle. i dont mind it.
