Installed the MGW shifter
My friend and I got the MGW shifter installed. It was actually a bit easier than I thought, but took a couple hours anyway. The 30 degree weather did not make it any easier with numb fingertips!
First impressions...it's tight. I did the "4" turns out. I think I'm gonna like it. 2nd gear does go in a bit smoother, 6th gear for the first time was hard to get in...had to force it but I"m sure it will break in.
Right off the bat, I noticed some new sounds I have not heard before. My guess is that it is due to the tight mechanism allowing more vibrations to come into the cabin. All the parts fit together very tightly, as opposed to the stock shifter which had some rubber dampeners and things of that nature.
So preliminarily...I like it a lot. The shifter ball looks so much better (Black with silver cobras). And...it is slightly bigger around, could not tell it visually, but in my hand I can tell it.
The hardest part of the whole thing was pulling the stock shifter up from below through the hole into the cabin. That damn thing was like a puzzle to get situated right lol.
One item that concerns me though...while under the car, I noticed some areas "splashed" with tranny fluid. Not dripping...but red in a few areas. And not near the fill hole or drain either...strange places nearby. I'm at a loss. Last time I changed the fluid to AMSOIL was like August. Is it possible I got some up there and it has just remained for a few months?

That's it, like a virgin...
What is the noise you were hearing? Paul has this shift on his GT500 and he was talking about a popping noise... sure he will chime in with details...
as far as the tranny fluid, was it still wet or was it more of a stain?
Re: Installed the MGW shifter
Mine was a lube issue. A little lithium grease did the trick. And yes 6th will be a little rough for a while. It does loosen up. At 65mph it can be a chore to go into 6th. I did notice at 155mph it's a lot easier.

I'm not sure how the Shelby shifters are set up but I know on T45/T5 and my T56 there's trans fluid below the shifter that could have came out when you pulled the shifter.

Paul where exactly did you put some grease?
Most of the noise I hear is transmission and thinks like that...it's pretty noticeable in 2nd gear especially.
I found a thread talking about this issue...seems it is common.

I'm not sure how to answer this.... Maybe you should talk to your Dad? :)
-The two arms that are forward of the main assembly...
-The rear assembly... the two SS rods that slide through the rear retainer. Hopefully you didn't tighten those too tight. They tend to break very easily.
Those are the areas to focus on. You won't hear it all the time. Only when it heats up an expands, if at all.
