Re: Transmission swap
Are you going from an auto to a manual?

Re: Transmission swap
Don't forget to install the pilot bearing in the crank. Install the scattershield before the flywheel. Torque flywheel bolts to spec. Use clutch alignment tool to align clutch disc after pressure plate. Don't over tighten pressure plate. Torque to spec in a cris cross pattern. Install bellhousing before transmission as it will be way easier. Don't forget to install the clutch fork and throw out bearing before stabbing the transmission. The trans may not seat all the way 1/8-1/4" gap is what I've normally seen. It will pull in after you get the bolts in. Tighten in slow cris cross pattern. Install speedo cable and reverse light connector. Might have to adjust your trans crossmember for the manual trans. Install driveshaft. Bolts are 12mm not 1/2" you will round them off with 1/2". Fill with fluid install shifter and clutch cable. I assume you already have the pedal assembly.

Re: Transmission swap
Haha yes auto to Manual. Just didn't know if you guys had some words of wisdom on an easy way to stab it in there. Down side is it is a T5 so the bell housing does not come off :(
I need to find a transmission jack or the attachment for a jack.

Re: Transmission swap
Sorry I meant it is a T45 not a T5. The T45 does not have a removable bell housing. What did you guys use to remove drive shaft, I can only get a wrench on there and holy hell they are on tight.

Re: Transmission swap
They use locktite from the factory. I usually spin the DS to allow access to each bolt with the wheels up. Lock it in gear or use the brakes to hold it and use a breaker bar to get them loose then repeat. That's why I warned about using a 12mm.

Re: Transmission swap
Oh ya I know about the 12mm 12point. But I didn't have a breaker bar so I had to use the hammer haha. Almost got the auto out now, just gotta unplug it from the motor and put it all back together. Hopefully she'll be running tonight. So happy to get rid of the 6 cats on this thing will really open it up.

Re: Transmission swap
Alright transmission dropped. Thank god this car has the 6-bolt crank so I won't have to buy a new flywheel. Time for the 5-speed!!

Re: Transmission swap
The auto and manual bolts are different lengths I believe. Can it be tapped? Probably didn't have enough thread to grab onto if you used the same bolts that came off the flexplate from the auto.

Re: Transmission swap
No he called it and the bolts are shorter...I should have known that I just am hurrying myself to get this thing running. But it only took the threads off the start of the bolt. Went through hell and back looking for a tap to clean the threads up with...it is a 10x1.0 tap. No one sells them but luckily I went to my neighbor and he had one that he had to use on his Honda 50. I got it threaded and all torqued down.

tranny jacks are over rated when messing with the T5. Just bench press the focker in.

Re: Transmission swap
Haha well its a T-45 so I didn't get to remove the bell housing and all that which makes it a million times easier. But we got hella lucky and got it to go in on the second try. Just used the jack and tilted the motor. Done and done. Just gotta finish up the small stuff, who wants to come help haha.

Re: Transmission swap
Well after I swapped everything it won't start. I know I am missing something but I don't know what to do to get it to start, everything turns on, fuel pump primes, lights come on and then nothing. I guess it thinks it is in drive or something but I swapped the entire harness and everything from the 5-speed and got a tune to turn off the automatic parameters. Suggestions? Haha.

Re: Transmission swap
There may be a neutral safety switch or a wire tucked in under the dash to plug into the clutch switch near the quadrant. It tells the car it can start. Might do a google search to see where it is.

Re: Transmission swap
I know its for a crown vic, but this is a really good write-up for going from a 4r70w to a cobra t-45. Skip to the part about the clutch position sensor and the neutral safety switch.

Did you do that?

Re: Transmission swap
In my defense it was late at night and I didn't troubleshoot a thing just wrote it off for the night as not working as soon as it didn't start...but the issue was the transmission harness was not plugged in haha. She started right up and all is well!!
Well mostly the clutch doesn't completely disengage unless the pedal is completely to the ground..like pushing as hard as I can haha. I installed MM quadrant and firewall adjuster when I did the swap so do I just need to adjust it tighter? It feels like if I go much tighter it will keep constant pressure on the throwout bearing.

Re: Transmission swap
Does the quadrant have two different "hooks"? If so check to see if you have the cable in the top one. You need more pedal travel.

Re: Transmission swap
Did you tighten the pressure plate bolts to the recommended torque? It's possible that it won't disengage if they are too tight
