"Engage"
"Engage" is what I was thinking when I floored it on the way to work this morning. On I-35 going about 60 mph, I downshifted into 4th. When I was done, even the cars that used to be ahead of me were now specs in the rear view, unrecognizable. As if I had hit the warp speed button. I like this function !
But, it is becoming obvious that I need to get my radar/laser detector sooner rather than later. I have narrowed the field down:
Escort Passport 9500ix - This one has GPS in it that eventually weeds out false alarm locations in cities. I find this very appealing. The Valentine1, for example, goes off all the time. This, along with NOT having the ability to easily update the thing, has turned me away from the V1. While the "Arrows" are nice, they are also the main selling point. Other detectors are just as sensitive, maybe it wasn't that way in the past, but now the V1 has been passed by, IMO.
I was also looking into the Escort REDLINE...this one does NOT have GPS in it, but, it is the most sensitive and best for highway travel. Also looked at a Beltronics GX65,
Anyone on here have a laser jammer? I see they are illegal in good ole Oklahoma! Legal in 40 states. Anyone ever try the "Veil" product that you put on your headlights and license plate? It reduces the lasers ability to get a reading on you at longer distances, so that you have like 2 seconds to slow down before he nails you. Just wondering how much the coating will reduce the HID lights. http://www.laserveil.com/
Oh, and also planning on getting one of those deals that allows you to mount your detector under the mirror, and hook into power cord there:
http://www.blendmount.com/ My only concern with this, is that a dash mount might be better to get laser readings. The beam is so small, I wonder if the mirror mount would be too high to catch it?

Re: "Engage"
Red racing stripes = "look at me", and the cops will, unfortunately! I'm hoping my subdued gray and black will help out in this regard, but only from a distance perhaps. I just like to engage the supercharger every once in a while. Well, ok...every time I drive. But, only at opportune times. I will definitely feel better with a detector.
By the way, you live in Moore so do you know of this place where you can run your car...some sort of track nearby? I heard about it from someone in a Porsche club.

Re: "Engage"
The Sheriff's Track is great for road racing. The Porsche Club is always renting it out, so best to check their website and go out with them. I have a few friends that always go with their Mustangs, and I have been meaning to go.
Thunder Valley is the local drag strip. Maybe Vandy can tell you where it is, I've never been there.
I also know where the local street racing syndicates meet, but I won't be disclosing that here. Been almost 5 years since I lived in the city, so they may not even use the same places anymore.

Re: "Engage"
How do you get in? Do you just show up there and drive? I can't find a website specifically for the track. Who is the person to contact to find out when you can drive on it?

yeah what kind of racing are you looking to do. the sheriffs track is rented out a lot. you more or less just need to know when people are going to rent it, and get in with them. if you are interested in that sort of thing then ill keep an ear out for when its going on and ill shoot you a text. the oklahoma mustang club typically rents it out twice a year one in the spring one in the fall.
drags, around here legally is thunder valley. its down south of noble. illegally it takes a little bit to get in with the guys that do it right (if there is a way) they do quite a bit of extensive security (cop patrol). but for the most part if you know someone that knows when they are doing it just show up. they wont kick you out or make you leave. if you wanna get a taste of what goes on in the streets of okc, go to thunder valley the 10th of sept at 1030 pm. they have rented the tack for KOC. a yearly event where they run the track backwards. its a pretty entertaining deal (and by back wards not in reverse, they start just past the finish line on the concrete. )
if your looking to get in with more of a high end high dollar group that runs some crazy high speeds, they have that also. ive heard rumors of some drifting going on in the okc are by some industial parks but ive yet to see it for my self.
anyway let me know what you are looking for and ill point you in a direction

Re: "Engage"
The War Bonnet Porsche Club of America is the one doing the Sherriff's Track days. Tyler (Postty) goes everytime they go out. Calendar on the right side of the page, and IIRC it's $20 to run with them. It's only one person at a time, more like hot lapping time trials, but it's a competitive feeling without worrying about wrecking (unless you do it yourself).
A guy last month rolled his $40k Subaru WRX STi out there though.
Edit: Guess a link would work:

Re: "Engage"
SWEET. Thanks for the info. I"ll look into it. Gonna get my heat exchanger installed first :-) Also, gonna wait for it to cool down a bit!
I bet it would be nearly impossible to roll the GT500 wouldn't it?
