Well it's already there I don't think I'm getting ripped off, I'll just have to see the quote and everything when it's all done.

Re: Ummm help me? :(
once it's done, it's not a quote, it becomes an invoice... you can't reject it... well you can, but they keep your car... it's called a mechanic's lien...

He was gonna check something with the driveshaft too, so I think the 950 included that so if it was fine then it'll be lower I think

Re: Ummm help me? :(
I just hope he contacts you back before fixing it all. if the rear end was shot, you would know it. I busted an axle in my 93 Grand Cherokee and it didn't move so well...
Re: Ummm help me? :(
you should (imo) immediately call them and get a definite quote before they start working on it. i mean you can get an entire new rear for that price. check out newtakeoff.com (i think)
also for that price i'd want a different diff that's stronger put in there.

Ended up with two teeth broken off the pinion. Replaced with 373s and I'm loving it!

You could have just broken two more off on the opposite side of the pinion to balance it out - would have never noticed it.

Re: Ummm help me? :(
Wow, 800 bucks for a gear install... remind me to learn how to do gears so I can charge this...
When you bought the car, the guy advertised 4.10s. Going back up to 373s you will actually lose on the acceleration...

dude...not trying to hate, but you should really take some advice from people that have more knowledge. i had my ENTIRE rear end done for $250 in labor.
That included:
completely taking EVERYTHING out of the housing
putting in an auburn lsd and 3.73's
put in moser axles
put in an entire bearing kit
put in the bearings and seals that go on the outer axle tubes

Lots of reasons.
Longer first gear for pulling in my neighborhood which people always give my mom noise complaints so it's a little quieter.
You really can't feel much of a difference in acceleration.
Higher top end.
Slightly better gas mileage on the highway, and so far in the city too. Once I go to college its gonna add up on my drives to wherever I end up going.
Easier to control spin at launch.
And now I don't have to go back and put 3.73s in if I ever do end up with a s/c.

Re: Ummm help me? :(
1) cruise into your neighborhood in 2nd or 3rd...which is super quiet.
2) There is a difference between 3:73 and 4.10 on performance and where you end up in the 1/4 in RPMs (4.10s are perfect for the track)
3) YOU DONT NEED HIGHER TOP END.....your 18 and shouldnt be doing stop speed pulls unless you have a death wish
4) Depends on which supercharger you go with...Centri blowers would have loved those 4.10 gears...Cams would have loved the 4.10s as well.
just sayin

I live second house from the entrance and it has a gate so I have to come to a stop an all.
I've seen people pretty much agree the difference in the two is .1 at the 1/4.
What happens when some crazy guy holds a gun to my head and says I wanna go 150? I'd be dead w/ 4.10s...
If I'm able to get a s/c I'll have a bigger budget then centris and I'll end up with a roots or twin screw.

You have all kinds of excuses... bottom line, whether you can jutify the 373s or not, you couldve done the swap 3 times for what you paid...
Re: Ummm help me? :(
Ummm... I am kinda of dumb ass old guy not very smart... you ask for everyones advice, but when you get it you dont really want to use it...just a dumb old guys perspective. Kinda sounds like some of my employees.

really trying to justify a $800 gear change saying someone might hold a gun to your head and tell you to go 150? all i can say is WOW...

Lol that was just to justify the 373, even with 410 id still have paid the same price. I realize I prolly shouldnt have been so anxious to get it back, he said he could have it back to me monday so I was like okay it'll be quick. Also I asked him if I kept driving it while waitin for parts will it maybe go out. I mean a tow is a good hundred bucks so I figured maybe there could be a cheaper price but if i risk getting it I might end up paying the same amount. Patience is a hard lesson to learn for me :(. Any ways I was still happy with the 373s. I feel they accelerate faster past 90-100. I tested this on a completely empty highway.

Re: Ummm help me? :(
and instead of starting a new thread ill ask here.
Okay so I'm starting to get brake fade even when I havent been braking hard, like even slowing down from 45 not even pressing the pedal hard I've felt them stop workin for a sec. My friend said my rotors are pretty bad, he pointed out like the color difference in them from the heat or something? Is heat spots a sign of rotors going bad? Also if I do replace the rotors is it cheaper to buy the stock ones and get them slotted somewhere. I see stock ones for 60 bucks and slotted ones for 260...
EDIT: I highly doubt I'll ever go track driving so do I even need slotted, I was also looking at frozenrotors.com, anyone done this? It looks like its only like 40 bucks a rotor.

Im sorry...but stop listening to your friends. They dont know what their talking about.
Your brakes probably just need to be bled and or your pads replaced.

Pads need to be replaced even if theyre not making any noise? I just always assumed if they were squeeking then it was time for pads.
And also since the same kid said I needed it too... Am I good still with my plugs, im at 61k and he said I should go ahead and do it, if I wait till 100k they'll be a pain to take out.

Re: Ummm help me? :(
Why would they be any harder to change at 100 versus 61?
This should be a good reasin to not ever take my car to Lofton Motorsports...
