Re: Cold air intake...
CAI is usually made of bigger tubing than your stock air tube thus allowing more air into your engine. Some are made of plastic..some are maid of metal. Most of the SN95 CAI kits relocate the air filter to inside the fender well, thus taking it out of the Hot engine compartment and putting it where the cooler air is. Thus Cold AIR Kit.
Basically the objective is to get MORE AIR and COOLER AIR into the motor Thus adding Horsepower and a CAI helps do that.
Does that answer your question?

Re: Cold air intake...
Yeah I guess I will do this to my car then. My brother was wanting me to but I have listened to him before and have done it and it has gone all wrong lol. Only because he never does it the right way! He is 16 and knows everything about cars! So he thinks.

Re: Cold air intake...
Cation.. some require a tune. In fact, the ones that are worth the $$ require a tune.

Re: Cold air intake...
The S197 cars need a tune for the CIA because the MAF sensor is part of the tubing or vise versa but SN95 and older cars have a completely seperate MAF sensor and by just putting on a CAI you are only replacing the tubing and not the MAF therefore no tune is necessary unless the MAF is changed and even then it is recommended but not required. The S197 cars have a completely different setup for the MAF and a different computer system that is more sensative to changes in the airflow into the engine making them temperamental when the CIA is installed without a tune so everyone is right and everyone is wrong.. lol.. Hope that clears up the water.

Re: Cold air intake...
Everyone knows muffler bearings only go out after a blower install due to the increased exhaust pressure and that fluids are only affected by the increased temperatures of a twin turbo system or large tube headers. c'mon guys.
