CEL "Check Charging System"
So I decided to drive the Shelby today because it was nice out and first thing I get about a mile into my commute is a low tire pressure light. I stop and check the tires and all are a little low (I'm guessing due to the change to colder weather recently). No big deal I think and head on into work. I go to lunch still have low tire pressure light. Hop in to leave about 3:00 and now in addition to my tire pressure light I'm getting a "check charging system" readout and my battery light is on. Made it home, checked all connections etc. Haven't put my volt meter on it yet but I'm guessing my alternator must be toast. Rediculous considering the car only has 6K miles on it! Anyway I was just curious if anyone else has had any issue with their alternator going south.
Oh and all battery connections are tight and clean. Still starts just fine and seems to lose the light if your climbing above 3K rpm.

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
Sounds like you have a bad diode in the alternator. At least I think that is what they are called. I would just schedule an appointment and have it looked at and tested. You can get somewhere without a battery, but can't get far without an alternator.

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
Maybe a bad battery? Did you check the voltage? Possibly the alternator is doing just fine....but the battery is crap and wont hold a charge very well.
Just throwing that out there.

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
FYI.....most that let their car sit for long periods of time use battery tenders. Batteries will go bad if they sit for long periods of time.
I will see if I can find some info on it and post it up.

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
I'll check it with my volt meter. I always start it at least twice a week but obviously I have no idea how long it has sat before I bought it. Since it was an 07 bought in 2010 by me with only 1400 miles I'd say it sat for an extended period. It seems to crank very strong still, no sluggish crank or anything.

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
If you are running a lower pulley this will tend to fry alternators, pretty common on these car.

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
Are the ford batteries covered under your drivetrain warranty? Also if they won't cover it I'd upgrade to a better alternator ;) the run the 10% lower pulley!! More Power!!!

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
Good luck with that. An upgraded alt is around 280 if i remember right. i have been running my setup for a while with no hiccups yet, but it is something you really need to watch as our cars are controlled by computer which in turn is powered by the alt, there is a chance of running lean at wot if the alt is not operating at full capacity. I would never go back now, the mod fever is hard to break once you start. I always say ok this is it no more......yeah rite!!! Horsepower is ADDICTIVE.

Batteries not covered under powertrain, only covered under 3/36.

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
Well I put the volt meter on it and it looks like the alternator must be toast. Anyone know if the alternator is covered under the powertrain warranty? Also just out of curiosity there isn't a fuse or anything that could be shot that might control juice to the battery is there?

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
Could be the voltage regulator inside the the alternator. Not sure if you can get the separate from the alt itself.

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
Since you have some experience here Leonard, if I throw a fit about how the car only has 6K miles on it do you think Ford might cover it? Just curious. I mean it's like another couple hundred bucks I could spend on toys for the toy drive if I don't have to buy a new one right now. I think it's pretty pitiful that it's shot after only 6K miles. Just my .02

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
You can try to pull some strings, if you have a good relationship with a dealer they can help a customer out. Ford gives them money to cover stuff like this.

Re: CEL "Check Charging System"
My bumper to bumper did just run out within the last 60 days or so. I guess I'll make some calls and see what they can do. If not at BHF maybe my good buddy David Leonard would try at JCF for me!?

I honestly highly doubt it, they really don't hook us up or friends of ours for the hook up. Usually customers that come in all the time get the hook up.
